NATURAL BEAUTY | HAIR

By Huda Heidi Kattan

Most women have had this, if not, consider yourself lucky, but nearly every woman I know has went through a period of bad hair. Mine wasn’t bad, it was ATROCIOUS! I had colored it SOOOO many times, stripped it, bleached it, and used a bad Keratin treatment. Needless to say, my hair was BAAD!!! It was so frizzy prone that it just plain wouldn’t straighten for longer than 5 minutes. I would fix it then it would frizz allll the way up! I WISH I had a picture to show you guys, but I wasn’t taking too many photos then, no wonder!

And I’m not going to lie, getting my hair back to being shiny and healthy was NOT easy! It took a lot of work, but I know EVERY single girl can have the hair they’ve always wanted if they just add a few steps to their routine! This is what I did and I swear, if this worked for my super-coarse-curly-unruly-pissed-off-on-most-days-hair, then it will work for EEEEVERYONE!!

Omega 3 is a MUST!!

Omega 3 fatty acids is the best way to get your hair healthy from the inside! It makes your shiny, adds health and vibrance and really just gives you super healthy silky hair. I actually take Omega 3-6-9 (Nordic Naturals) as well as Omega 7 (Sea Buckthorn I really like this brand)!

Stay off the Color!!

I actually loooove hair that is even toned and one color, so for me coloring is kind of a must! But one of the things that sucks about coloring your hair is that it lifts your natural color and of course the damage that comes along with that! I started using only ammonia free color and it made SUCH a huge difference for me!

Stop Blowdrying Your Hair!!

I know this sounds crazy, especially if you love straightening your hair, but not only is my hair healthier, but it also stopped falling out TREMENDOUSLY! I just use a flat iron and if I want to curl it, I add curls with the flat iron, this has literally made my hair thicker!

Use Hair Masks!!

There’s a few hair masks that I love, but I also try doing as many at home as possible! Find what works best for you and then try using a deep conditioner at least once a week!

Clarify!!

I know this might seem crazy, especially if your hair is dry, but using a little vinegar with water is AMAZING! Just use a little and I do have to warn you, this will begin to lighten your hair over time, but your hair will never be softer or shinier!

thank you for this post huda!

I need to ask your advice! I got a haircut last week with a new stylist. I went into the salon with healthy, full, waist-length hair that just needed a trim to be cleaned up. This girl hacked off 6-8 inches of my hair and gave me an uneven, shaggy, layered cut. Needless to say, I am devastated, heartbroken, I’ve lost all my confidence and don’t feel like myself at all. Do you have any tips for hair growth or for how to feel confident while growing my hair back out? I am truly so upset over this… :(

    • Oh my this happened to me! I literally cried at the saloon’s chair when i saw what the hair dresser did. I saw the korean owner the day after and it makes me wanna cry again just seeing her. Anyway alovera gel straight from the plants helped mine alot with a deep conditioning of warmed coconut milk. I leave it in my hair the whole day, it would feel weird and really does smells but it really does makes wonder hair growth! ;)

Love the tips, your hair always looks so in control (and I’ve seen your Dianna Ross look *wink* *wink* lol). Do you first let your hair air-dry before flat ironing, or do you use the flat iron on wet hair? If you use it on wet hair, doesn’t that fry your hair?

I have a question – how is flat ironing your hair any different from blow-drying? I thought flat irons have so much heat in them. Please answer:(
