I’ve always been a fan of Tarte’s Cosmetics, but the brand has been majorly upping their game recently. In May I fell in love with their Amazonian Clay Foundation Sticks, so I’m down to try anything Tarte release, especially a setting powder. As our camera’s get better, the harder our makeup has to work to keep up with our selfies, and as a result setting powders are becoming more and more important. Almost all my favorite brands are releasing incredible new powders every month, and the latest powder on the scene to catch my eye was Tarte’s Rainforest of the Sea Filtered Light Setting Powder. My first observation was the solo shade offering, I feel like it would be useful to provide a darker shade too, but of course, I wanted to try it.
What it is: A fine, talc-free, weightless powder that can be used for setting and baking. The powder also contains Tarte’s Rainforest of the Sea complex, which combines algae and marine flower extracts that smooth, balance, and soften skin, while vitamin E and vanilla extract provide antioxidants and a sweet scent.
What it does: The formula blends seamlessly into your skin and provides long-lasting shine control for a look that stays put all day. Micronized light-reflecting particles blur the appearance of fine lines and pores by diffusing light, to give skin a healthy radiance, which is also designed to prevent photo flashback.
What we liked: The packaging was cute and simple and immediately recognizable as part of the Rainforest of the Sea collection. The fact that the actual pot is quite large and wide means that’s it’s easy to dip your sponge and brush into, and the container also gives out a good amount of product. As soon as I applied it I noticed my imperfections were blurred and my skin texture looked more even. The finish was flawless: it was extremely mattifying, not luminous at all, but I loved that, and most importantly, it kept my makeup in place really well and completely absorbed any oil throughout the night.
What we didn’t like: The biggest let down for me, is that I found it had insane flashback, whether the pic was taken from far away or close up. I still love the powder, and I’d wear it on a daily basis, but I wouldn’t recommend it for a night out, or if you know you’ll have pictures taken. Other than that, I would highly recommend it; it really is a beautiful powder.
