As much as we love scrolling through Insta, sometimes the stream of poised perfection does make us feel a little, well, you know! Even when we remind ourselves that the flawless skin is most likely thanks to Facetune, we’re still left striving for flawleesly airbrushed skin. This is why we love it when celebs and Insta stars are real and open up about their problems, completely normalizing their beauty struggles. And celebs who showcase their acne is our favorite example, because for us, acne can really get us down, it’s actually crazy how much a few bumps on our face can make us feel. So, if ever you need a reminder of how unimportant those pesky pimples are, take a quick look at these five amazing role models, who put their acne on display and look absolutely stunning while doing so.
Bella Thorne tends to divide opinions, but one thing we will always love about her is her DGAF attitude when it comes to her acne. She posts pictures when it’s improving, or when she has a flare-up. She talks about the struggles and how it makes her feel, while always reminding herself (and us) that it’s normal, and that she will ‘show her skin for what it is and own it,’ ‘no matter what anyone says’. And just like Lorde, she asks magazines to not Photoshop anything, even when she’s posing completely naked. Now that’s confidence!
Kendall Jenner is constantly labeled as one of the world’s most beautiful women, yet that also means she’s a huge target for criticism when she isn’t her usual, airbrushed self. Although we can’t deny, she does seem to be a fan of Facetune (so are we now and again), on her show and on the red carpet she’s unavoidably transparent. So recently, when Kendall was at the Golden Globes, the Twittersphere lit up, commenting on her acne flare-up. And although a lot of tweets threw some major shade, it also gave a lot of people, ourselves included, some comfort because she absolutely OWNED it. She even retweeted one the comments saying, ‘don’t let that shit stop you’ and she’s so right. Never let an acne breakout stop you from doing anything, just try to remember that so many people experience the same thing and it really is nothing to be ashamed of.

We’ve got to say we live for Em Ford’s selfie game. She is so rightly, unashamed of her acne and any other aspects or ‘typical’ flaws on her face. And to top it off she isn’t afraid to give a serious clap back to anyone who tries to bring her down. Even if you don’t have acne, this is a good follow: she’s confident, she’s sassy, and her makeup skills are dope too! If you’re ever questioning yourself, watch this viral video she created. ‘You Look Disgusting’, that’s had over 27 million views here.
Lorde has never been scared of being real AF in the media and we love her for it. Not only does she constantly call out publications for airbrushing her acne, but she constantly vocalizes her daily skincare struggles. In one video, Lorde told us of her daily frustration of people giving her unwarranted skin advice; ‘For real though, acne sucks. You know what also sucks? When you’ve had acne for years and years, done all the drugs, tried all the things, and people are still like, ‘You know what worked for me, is moisturizing.’ We feel your pain, hun.
Having been bullied since the age of 11 for her acne, Hailey decided to start posting pictures on Instagram baring her acne for the world to see. Her aim was to comfort other acne sufferers and to show them that they weren’t alone in their struggle. At a point, the bullying went from haters calling her ‘pizza face’ to death threats. The extent of this hatred didn’t shut her down, instead, she released this inspiring image and we couldn’t agree more.
So the next time your acne begins to flare up, look to these five inspiring role models and let them remind you that you are beautiful no matter what. And most importantly BE confident.
