spring nail art ideas

Spring is finally in full bloom (okurrrr), and one of our favorite ways to embrace the warmer weather is by switching up our mani game to try some of the season’s hottest new shades and nail art trends. And while we’re all about “doing you” when it comes to nails and not letting trends dictate our digits, it’s important to remember that polish isn’t permanent – although it may feel that way when you’re choosing a color at the salon! He’re are five looks we’re loving right now:

1. Pastels with Negative Space

Real talk: sometimes nail art can be kind of cheesy and feel a little kiddish. The exception? We love how a graphic geometric design using negative space (aka, letting part of your bare nail peek through) can look sophisticated and still have a minimalist vibe. Since pastels are always on point for spring, we’re excited to try this trend with some of the creamy colors in the new Sally Hansen Crayola collection that just dropped…swoon!

2. Reverse French with Glitter

French manicures can get a bad rep, but just like in fashion, classic looks tend to reinvent themselves over the years. We are so feeling this reverse revival of the French that still incorporates the pale pink base used in the traditional manicure style, but instead adds a thin glitter stripe at the base of the nail. We also love that this design works well on shorter nails to create an illusion of a longer nail bed.

3. Holographic Hues

It’s official: the unicorn trend has officially taken over every category in beauty – from hair to makeup, skin, and now nails. But while the trend has been around since 2016, wearing the frosty holographic hues on our fingers feels fresh and fabulous for spring. We’re especially digging this shimmery strobe-like effect on square nail shapes for the way the light reflects off its clean edges. We’re obsessed with Nails Inc’s Sparkle Like A Unicorn set and their Fantasyland and Holler-Graphic shades.

4. Banana Leaf Motif

While we’ve yet to see this trend in beauty (until now), the banana leaf has been flooding our feed in various home décor and fashion posts for months. Seeing this playful plant-inspired print on nails is so extra and we’re here for it. Super talented nail artist Miss Pop created this design on Allure’s Editor in Chief. We’re going to try to recreate it using shades from Essie’s new spring collection.

5. Fluorescent Green

While not for everyone, we’re all about a bold neon nail moment. Ever since seeing a vibrant yellow on our girl Lisette we’ve been coveting a similar shade with a hint of lime green. Mission accomplished: Orly Nail Lacquer in Thrill Seeker is going to be our new go-to shade this spring and into summer…  especially when that tan is poppin’ (even if it’s faux).
