Food

As soon as it hits 3 pm, here at HB HQ we ALL get hungry and most of the time we end up reaching for the donuts. And don’t get us wrong, we love indulging, but we can’t deny that’s it’s not great for our skin and bodies. So to help you resist temptation – and us too – we’ve got six snacks that are super tasty, healthy, and will even boost your glow game. Instead of cramming snacks full of refined sugars that dehydrate your body and trigger breakouts, these snacks are full of natural sugars with slow-releasing energy that keeps you full for longer. They also contain vitamins and antioxidants that’ll bless your skin and health-ify your locks. Plus, you can make these in big batches and save them for when your cravings hit.

Chia Seed Pudding ist our go-to snack: The tasty little seeds are bursting with minerals and antioxidants that’ll give you a serious glow while evening out skin tone and soothing inflammation as they’re an amazing source of Omega 3. It helps keep your hair healthy and adds shine while strengthening your hair follicles, keeping split ends at bay. Another bonus is it’s made with almond milk, which is more nutritious and less calorific than dairy milk, so it’s vegan too! You can customize the pudding with whatever fruits you have handy. Check out the recipe here.

The Hydrator Screen Shot 2018-03-11 at 10.08.44 AM

As cucumber is almost 97% water, these chili and lime cucumber sticks will instantly hydrate and rejuvenate your skin and body – plus they take 2 minutes to make! The chili will also help you debloat as it’ll immediately kickstart your metabolism and help pass unwanted toxins from the body – fewer toxins, better skin!

The Ultimate Antioxidant

Blueberries are the ultimate snack-happy antioxidant! The benefits are never-ending; they help boost your collagen production which keeps signs of aging at bay by firming your skin and ensuring your hair stays healthy and damage-free. The yogurt is really good for your complexion, too, as it’s full of calcium which strengthens the epidermis (the outer layer of your skin), allowing it to retain its natural oils. However, dairy can also aggravate acne, so if you have acne-prone skin, just ditch the yogurt. Take a look at our favorite recipe here.

The Energy Hit

These amazing energy balls are the perfect afternoon snack as they’re full of healthy fats and proteins with slow-releasing energy, so they’ll keep you going for longer. The recipe is quick and easy too, and will even help boost your skin and save damaged hair! The Medjool dates are an amazing anti-inflammatory, making it the perfect snack for anyone with acne. Just try to limit yourself to two energy balls – even though it’s natural, too much sugar could cause a breakout! The almonds are really nourishing, filled with fatty acids, and will give your tresses a natural bounce and beautiful shine!

The Sweet Savior

Goji berries are one of those superfoods that don’t get the hype they deserve! They’re tasty, and if eaten regularly, they’ll help fight free radicals that cause premature aging while calming redness or inflammation. They also help protect your skin from the damage of the sun (but this doesn’t mean you can ever skip sun protection). Its dark chocolate coating doesn’t contain as much sugar as milk chocolate, and the cocoa has actually been proven to lower cholesterol. You can either melt the dark chocolate for 2 minutes in the microwave, cover each berry with chocolate and refrigerate them overnight. Or, you can make these delicious bars.

The Guilt-Free Favorite

If you make your own popcorn and add your own healthy toppings, like cinnamon or coconut shavings, you can literally transform this sugary snack. The popcorn itself isn’t calorific at all and if you buy whole grain popcorn, it’s a great source of fiber and is actually full of antioxidants and vitamins that can help skin to look more radiant. Look for organic popcorn as otherwise the kernels can be genetically modified and processed with chemicals. Check out our favorite recipe here.
