Beauty Secret Revealed: Baby-Soft Feet!

When it comes to footwear, it’s no question as to what is hot these days: The higher the heel, the better. And as much as we love our Louboutin’s, they may not love our feet.

Here is an old trick to get the perfect at-home pedi:

When soaking your feet, make sure the water is warm, add half a cup of olive oil and half cup dishwasher powder (Ariel works fine as a substitute), soak for at least 15 minutes then scrub with a body scrub like Cuccio Milk and Honey Sea Salt (available at Select Sasha’s salon or online at Scrub in circular motions starting from your heels and moving toward your toes. Rinse with warm water. Follow with a pumice stone and foot lotion (Aveda Foot Relief, or Cuccio Milk and Honey Butter Blend) and voila! Buttery-soft-beautiful feet! For best results, try doing this once a week.

Deflate Puffy Eyes!

I admit, as much as I preach about beauty, one of the downfalls of a crazy schedule is lack of sleep!  Without sleep, your skin will lose its luster and your eyes can puff out to the size of a small country.  For those of you who can’t always afford the time to relax, here are some quick tips to deflating those puffy eyes!

  1. Soak two cotton balls in witch hazel and place each one over eyes for 15 minutes.
  2. Place two black tea bags in warm water and place over eyes for 10 minutes.
  3. Use an eye mask like my favorite, Anatomicals Puffy the Eye Bag Slayer (available at Harvey Nichols for 36 AED), and place in fridge, then wear for 20 minutes.

A Little Massage Goes a Long Way

Desperate for longer hair fast? About a year ago, I cut some bangs that I was bored of by the second month. The problem? My hair was just NOT growing! So I remembered hearing that massaging your scalp is good for hair growth–boy is it! My bangs grew more in two months than it had in over 4 months!

What I did? It was simple! You can increase your growth by simply massaging for a few minutes a night. If your hair is dull and not growing at the rate you are looking for, a thorough massage will help improve blood flow and increase nourishment to the hair follicles, resulting in more lustrous locks and rapid hair growth.Massaging your scalp helps spread the natural oils throughout the hair and makes it look more shiny and radiant. No need for fancy expensive products! You already have what you need! Now all you need is a little massage! Feel free to indulge and enjoy!

Foods for a More Beautiful You

It’s no secret that antioxidants are incredibly beautifying and super healthy–not only do they prevent oxidation of molecules including collagen (slowing down the aging process), but they also protect against heart disease, cancer, and reduce blood pressure. We love antioxidants so much we had to make a list of foods that have the highest amounts of these miracle molecules:

Deliciously provocative, berries are full of fiber, minerals, and vitamins that delay the onset of age-related loss of cognitive function. Who knew–berries keep you sharp!

Healthy Tips: Add berries into vanilla yogurt with honey and granola for a healthy snack.

Tomatoes are rich in lycopene that help prevent lung, colon and breast cancers. Bring on the salads!

Healthy Tip: Add Roma tomatoes, fresh basil, and olive oil with pasta.

Broccoli is known for it’s compound indole-3-carbinol, an antioxidant that breaks down estrogen and reduces the risk of breast cancer. The beta-carotene found in broccoli also helps protect against cancer and heart disease. Broccoli and cheese anyone?

Healthy Tip: Steam broccoli and season with olive oil. Add chopped black olives and dash with red pepper flakes.

Resveratrol and quercetin are anitoxidants in red grapes that help veins stay open and flexible. Resveratrol also protects against gastric ulcers, cancer, stroke and even osteoporosis.

Healthy Tip: Freeze grapes for a summer treat that is as sweet as it is healthy.

Studies prove, that tea significantly reduces the risk of heart disease, stroke, and cancer. Although green tea has been said to have more antioxidants as black tea, recent observations suggest that both are equally beneficial. You may want to make your next coffee date, a tea date!

Healthy Tips: Try using green tea to boil soba noodles in. Season to taste, voila!
