Check out the latest behind the scenes for Cyndi Lauper and Lady Gaga for their Viva Glam lipsticks. Lady Gaga’s is a pretty pink and Cyndi Lauper’s is a vivacious red. The colors could not be more classic and the cause more beautiful. No matter what, we’re sure the new dynamic duo are going to make an impact in a gorgeous way.
BEHIND THE SCENES | PHOTOSHOOT
By Huda Heidi Kattan
I seriously had an incredible time shooting at Burlesque with the dream team! Billie Muller, the incredibly talented and creative photographer, also was the art director and stylist (as usual) for the shoot. Antonia Malt from Promake, did the hair (seriously talented) and I did the makeup.
PERIOD MAKEUP | 1960
By Huda Heidi Kattan
Of all my favorite periods for makeup, the early 1960’s has always been my favorite. Strong brows, spikey lashes, heavy use of eyeshadow, with nude lips with a dash of glitter–so sultry. It’s no wonder why these iconic beauties are some of the most memorable of all time. Simply put, their beauty is timeless. I’m thinking of doing a tutorial on this period makeup, let me know if you guys are interested!
VAL GARLAND | YSL | MAKEUP ARTIST PROFILE
By Huda Heidi Kattan
Ever heard of the name Val Garland? In case you haven’t, it’s time to get familiar! f you are a makeup or fashion lover of any sort, chances are, you already know her work. She is ubiquitously featured in Vogue Italia, UK, Japan, and Paris as one of the premier makeup artist for their most elite editorials and cover shoots. Want more? She has created some of the most provocative makeups for recent runway shows and ad campaigns for Giambattista Valli, Moschino, and MAC. Oh, did I mention she is the power-house behind the creative designs for YSL makeup? Not too shabby for the Brittish Makeup Artist, who was originally a hair dresser. She landed her first gig doing makeup on a photo shoot one day, when the makeup artist was a no-show! Boy are we happy that person slept in!
Hi gorgeous! I LOVE YOUR BEAUTY BLOG!!!!!!! Its awesome,, can you give me advice on bronzers and liquid foundation? I was previously using NARS laguna beach bronzer and just a random liquid foundation…any advice would be greatlyyyyyyyyy appreciated 🙂 Thanks dollface!
REPLY FROM BEAUTY 411:
So glad you like the blog!!!! 🙂 Great question darling!
The foundation of choice for me is MAC Studio Fix Fluid. I seriously love it! I started using it when I had a facial that went wrong right before my wedding and I needed a cover-all foundation. This one does the trick and it’s actually quite light! No one every thinks I’m wearing makeup when I wear it, even after those rushed mornings when I apply it with my hands! I also like using the MAC Mineralize SPF Foundation as well for on-the-go (pretty much all the friends I recommended this to that try it, tell me they are so happy with it).
Bronzers are a subject that is very much important to me! After having spent a big part of my life sunbathing and realizing that I wrinkle like a raisin, I needed to find an alternative. I have literally tried every bronzer that has ever hit counters (and some that didn’t). My own personal preference for bronzers has been one that is light and natural. I don’t fancy shimmer or orange-based bronzers, but that’s personal preference. If you are looking for a natural bronzer with killer staying power, I HIGHLY recommend Cargo Water Resistant Bronzer. The color is amazingly natural and it looks great on everyone. I keep one for myself and one in my kit when I’m on set. If you do have a thing for NARS, try Heat. It’s a pressed powder that works great as a bronzer (it’s basically Laguna without the shimmer). If shimmer is what you are after, Guerlain makes great shimmery bronzers.
My biggest recommendation of all, however, is to wear plenty of SPF! I thinkn it’s nearly impossible to wear too much, in Dubai anyways! No matter where you are, make sure never to leave home without it!
I was walking through one of my favorite department stores this summer and having thought I was very happy with my current mascara, I kindly ignored the pushy sales lady when she suggested I try Smashbox Lash DNA. She finally gave me a sample and boy did my world change! I went back the very next day for three tubes for my sisters! This stuff is amazing!
It gives you extreme length, but also just the right amount of thickness. It is super black which makes for a kick ass combination! The secret weapon is the brush; it’s shaped just perfectly to give you the right volume you’re looking for.
For best results, I recommend using this with a Lash Primer (Makeup Forever Lash Fibers is a good choice), and lengthening mascara (Dior Iconic and Cargo Blue-Ray Mascaras are my favorite), followed by Lash DNA. If you’re in a hurry, skip the lengthening mascara and go!
THE BLOCK | HAUTE EDITORIAL
By huda heidi kattan
Want edge with drama in high-fashion? Photographer Benny Horne nailed the shoot with model Tasha Tilberg in this editorial for The Block. Makeup Artist, Kristin Gallegos from Shu Uemura brilliantly married the look with her use of colors and contouring. With James Worthington DeMolet dresses, this dream-team simply could not get any better.
Pat McGrath has been named ‘the most influential makeup artist of all times’, and while being credited as the creative mind behind runway looks for Prada, Dolce & Gabbana, Galliano and Dior, it’s no wonder her imagination has received world-wide recognition. When I actually decided to study makeup, she was part of the reason! I think it’s amazing how much she can transform models into walking, living art! Check out some of my favorite work from Pat McGrath!
