Silky-Soft-Hair! Oh My!!

Summer sun will soon be shining on our doorstep, but with the sunshine comes the humidity and then (cue 1920’s horror film background music) FRIZZ! We’ve all heard of the Brazilian Keratin Treatment and if you haven’t done it already, I’m sure you’ve at least been a bit curious as to what the hype is all about.
I personally never thought I could benefit from this treatment as my hair is pin-straight and I was frightened to lose volume. But as a licensed cosmetologist (providing the service at a very reasonable price ), I had to at least try it out for myself. My verdict: Keratin is great for EVERYONE!
Keratin is the main protective substance in our hair. Adding more keratin to our hair improves each strand inside and out. Keratin will not only make your hair shinier, healthier and stronger, but it also protects from environmental damage caused by the sun that cause hair color to fade.

The great thing about the Brazilian Keratin Treatment is it’s just a reconditioning treatment –shocking—a salon procedure that gives you beautiful, silky hair, without the damage! BEWARE: Most Keratin Treatments contain the carcinogen, formaldehyde. So, say no to brain tumors and consult your stylist to ensure they are using formaldehyde-free products. These formaldehyde-free products are significantly more costly to the stylist/salon. So, expect the formaldehyde-free Keratin Treatment to be a bit pricier than other salons that use products containing the cancer-causing chem. If any time to splurge on the higher end product, this is it.

Expect silky locks for 3-5 months, depending on your products and how often you wash. Blow out time cut in half! Frizz-nonestistent. Without effort, tight curls will be naturally wavy. Waves will be naturally straight.

Best place to get this treatment in Boston Area: contact Candice (+1774.930.8731) Not only will you get the formaldehyde-free treatment at $150, which is less than the standard $180, but you will also be on your way with all the tools to maintain your soft tresses at a discount price. Recommended products by Candice: Pureology Antifade ZeroSulfate Shampoo and Conditioner (Retails at $27 each 10.1 oz, she sells for $20 each with treatment).

Get Perfekt Skin

As much as I love to sunbathe, I never thought I would burn–boy was I wrong! After spending close to 5 hours in Thai sun, and using ZERO PROTECTION, my skin thanked me, cordially. It was the first time both my husband and I had burned in our lives. Needless to say, we peeled like bananas. My skin—bloootchy!! I had numerous Moroccan bath, scrubs, etc. and nothing truly made my skin look flawless again.

Luckily for me, Perfekt came to my rescue. This incredibly silky formula makes your skin look even and bronzed. I try stay out of the sun now, but I still use this amazing product. Any night I have an event or wedding to go to, I simply apply this to my arms, legs and decolletege. It also adds the slightest amount of shimmer, which is to-die-for! Now you can have your Perfekt skin! Literally!

(Available at Sephora, $48)

Wrinkle Cream that Works!

So I admit, I’ve tanned a few times too many in my lifetime. I love to be bronzed, I can’t help it! Although I may fancy the sun-kissed-goddess look, my skin hates it! So much, that it decided to wrinkle like a prune when I hit my mid-twenties:( Thankfully, I was introduced to Peter Thomas Roth’s (PTR) UnWrinkle–finally, a product that literally does what it says.

The super-smoothing formula is made up six peptides that relax, smooth, and prevent wrinkles. If that doesn’t sound good enough for you, one of the peptides actually boost the production of collagen.

Seems too good to be true? Well, the only draw back is that you have to continuously use this product to maintain results, but trust me, you will want to! I never travel without it!

Available at Sephora ($120) or Sister’s salon in Dubai Mall (395 AED).

Foods for a More Beautiful You

It’s no secret that antioxidants are incredibly beautifying and super healthy–not only do they prevent oxidation of molecules including collagen (slowing down the aging process), but they also protect against heart disease, cancer, and reduce blood pressure. We love antioxidants so much we had to make a list of foods that have the highest amounts of these miracle molecules:

BERRIES

Deliciously provocative, berries are full of fiber, minerals, and vitamins that delay the onset of age-related loss of cognitive function. Who knew–berries keep you sharp!

Healthy Tips: Add berries into vanilla yogurt with honey and granola for a healthy snack.

TOMATOES

Tomatoes are rich in lycopene that help prevent lung, colon and breast cancers. Bring on the salads!

Healthy Tip: Add Roma tomatoes, fresh basil, and olive oil with pasta.

BROCCOLI

Broccoli is known for it’s compound indole-3-carbinol, an antioxidant that breaks down estrogen and reduces the risk of breast cancer. The beta-carotene found in broccoli also helps protect against cancer and heart disease. Broccoli and cheese anyone?

Healthy Tip: Steam broccoli and season with olive oil. Add chopped black olives and dash with red pepper flakes.

RED GRAPES

Resveratrol and quercetin are anitoxidants in red grapes that help veins stay open and flexible. Resveratrol also protects against gastric ulcers, cancer, stroke and even osteoporosis.

Healthy Tip: Freeze grapes for a summer treat that is as sweet as it is healthy.

TEA

Studies prove, that tea significantly reduces the risk of heart disease, stroke, and cancer. Although green tea has been said to have more antioxidants as black tea, recent observations suggest that both are equally beneficial. You may want to make your next coffee date, a tea date!

Healthy Tips: Try using green tea to boil soba noodles in. Season to taste, voila!
