As much as we love to get the inside scoop from celebrity makeup artists and hairstylists, sometimes you just can’t beat the beauty advice you get from the female figure in your life. Often, it’s the simple beauty rules we get from our moms, aunts, grandmas, and the women who support us that are some of the most important. Here’re nine beauty lessons celebrities learned from their moms. Take note…

Jessica Alba

Jessica Alba is basically the queen of the natural glow; her skin always looks dewy AF. She’s super lucky that when she was a teen, her mom told her three of the most essential skincare rules out there. Firstly, she taught her to always wash her face each night, to always wear sunscreen (that means every day), and lastly, to always be gentle with her face and to never pull around the eyes when cleansing. AMEN.

Blake Lively

Okay, so we’ve got to admit this may be one of the weirder beauty lessons but we’re still going to try it. Blake said that her mom told her to use Mayonnaise as a hair mask, applying it from the mid-section of her hair to the tips. And there is actual science behind this hair hack, as mayonnaise contains hair-healthy ingredients like egg, lemon juice, and vinegar, which boost shine and lock in moisture. We know it’s kinda gross, but if Blake does it, then we’re going to give it a shot.

Shailene Woodley

Shailene Woodley didn’t just learn beauty lessons from her mom, but lessons in confidence and self-love. “I’ve learned so much from my mother. She’s 49 and has never dyed her hair, never worried about wrinkles, never felt self-conscious about having her womanly body. And I took all of that to heart. I don’t think there is any better lesson than that.”

Kendall Jenner

Even though Kendall has access to some of the world’s top makeup artists and skincare specialists, she also learned a lot from her momager Kris Jenner. In a recent interview with InStyle, Kendall said that one of the biggest rules she learned was simple, “never touch your face.” And Kris Jenner is right. On average, we touch our faces more than three times an hour and by doing so, we’re just relocating dirt and oil from our hands to our face. The outcome? Breakouts.

Priyanka Chopra

Priyanka’s mom didn’t just pass down good genes and beauty lessons, she passed down some insane natural DIYs. One of her favorite DIYs includes a natural lip scrub: mix one teaspoon of salt with a couple of drops of rose water and some vegetable glycerin. Then, gently massage it onto your lips and wash it off with warm water. We can’t wait to try this, after all, you know how much we live for DIYs!

Ciara

Although Ciara admits that her mom didn’t wear a lot of makeup, she did pass down the importance of a good red lipstick, which we can totally relate to. A red lip has the ultimate sex appeal and as Ciara told Instyle “throw a little red on and it fixes everything.” Preach it.

Georgia May Jagger

When your dad is one of the most famous rock stars of all time, you probably have some of the world’s best beauty products on your shelf. But what Georgia appreciates more is good advice. Georgia insists that her mom taught her all about the beauty of nourishing ingredients, and as to keep her long, full hair looking healthy, she was taught to apply avocado and olive oil to her hair. She also said that her mom taught her to put lip balm on her teeth to prevent any lipstick staining her teeth – genius!
