2018 has been a pretty big year – Cardi B stole everyone’s heart with Invasion of Privacy (except Nicki Minaj, obvs), we finally found out that Kylie Jenner actually was pregnant, and don’t get us started on the Royal Wedding… But it wasn’t just a big year for celeb goss and global news, there have been some pretty major beauty discoveries; from dope new brands and Instagram accounts we can’t live without, to new oils that have saved our skin. Here are five beauty discoveries that made our year a little brighter…
The Inkey List
If you’re a regular on Huda Beauty, you’ll have heard about our latest beauty obsession, The Inkey List, and if you haven’t, let’s just say it’s about to change your life (well your skin game at least)! Seriously, we know that may sound a tad dramatic, but The Inkey List offers some insane formulas at super affordable prices – nothing over $13. But their secret is they keep it simple: The collection consists of fifteen fuss-free products that feature some of skincare’s most in-demand ingredients, from hyaluronic acid to retinol and vitamin C. On each product, its purpose is clearly outlined, for example, skin brightening or gentle exfoliation, making skincare easily digestible for everyone. The best part is that it’s affordable; literally, it’s practically the same price as your bus fare! Shop The Inkey List here.
If you guys aren’t following Celeb Face, you’re missing out! It gives some serious insight into the world of celebrity photo editing. It shows how celebrities edit their pics for Instagram, which of course, is totally fine, but it does shed some light and give you a little perspective, so that next time you look at a celeb pic, you might be a little kinder to yourself. It also shows how celeb faces have changed over time, leaving you to decide whether it’s age or a little, ahem, help from a certain doctor (again, totally cool, but definitely fascinating to see and be aware of). It also shows you close-up portraits of celebs without airbrushing, which typically you’ll never find in a magazine. All of which help you realize that just like us, celebs have pores and fine lines too – except Hailey Baldwin, it seems.

This 5-Second Hair-Curling Hack
Arguably, one of the most revolutionary beauty products of 2018 was the Dyson Airwrap, a hairdryer and curling iron all in one, that gives you a salon-level blow dry in ten minutes. Sounds amazing, right? Our only issue with the product was its pretty hefty price tag – $549. But why spend so much when we’ve found a hack that will save you guys some serious dollar! This hair curling hack does practically the same thing but costs less than a dollar. All you need is an empty water bottle, a pair of scissors, and a hairdryer. Intrigued? Check out our hack here.
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ll have heard of the beauty power of coconut oil. It’s been THE oil for the past couple of years, and don’t get us wrong, it’s amazing, we literally bathe in it (for real, we put a tablespoon in our bath). But there’s a new oil making it big in the beauty biz – plum oil. Plum oil is, in fact, eight times more powerful than miracle oils like argan oil, and six times more potent than marula oil. It’s also bursting with antioxidants, polyphenols, and fatty acids, all of which will hydrate, repair, and protect the skin for next level glow. Find out more deets on our fave oil here.
We’ve got to admit; we’re a sucker for a nail trend! One trend that totally stole our hearts in 2018 was jelly nails. We wore them all summer long, and have been reinventing ways to wear them ever since. Jelly nails are essentially bright colored nails that have a transparent finish making them look like jelly. Could there be anything more adorable? Check out how easy it is to do jelly nails yourself, here.
