As beauty lovers, we can spend hours watching celebrity makeup tutorials on YouTube. After all, celebs and models spend years in the hair and makeup chair, so they’ve learned their fair share of tips from some of the best makeup artists in the industry.

Fortunately for us, Vogue’s YouTube Beauty Secrets series features the routines of tons of supermodels, It girls, and celebrity glow-getters who have learned from the best. So we’ve collated some of the best celeb makeup tips and tricks that will help to transform your makeup game.

1. Jessica Alba’s Glowing Skin Secret

via Vogue

Jessica Alba is known for her flawless complexion and gorgeous glow. To achieve her signature look, Jessica uses not one but two primers – it’s a trick she learned from MUA Daniel Martin. To control oil around her T-zone, she uses a mattifying primer, then to amp up her glow she uses a radiance primer everywhere else. We also love this hack, especially during the summer months when our skin tends to be more oily. We call the look mewy, AKA the perfect mix between being matte and dewy. Check out our tips for perfecting the double primer hack here.

2. Tracee Ellis Ross’ Earthy Blush

via Vogue

To create a bronzed youthful glow, Tracee Ellis Ross layers her blush and contour cream on the center of her cheeks. First, she warms up her cream blush in the palm of her hand, then she works it into the apples of her cheeks for a natural flush of color. Next, to add dimension, Tracee dabs her contour cream on top rather than along her cheekbone. The final result? A natural sun-kissed look. We’re low-key obsessed.

3. Winnie Harlow’s Reverse Contour

via Vogue

After watching Winnie’s makeup tutorial, we fell in love with her even more. Winnie, like us, is a full beat kinda gal, so we were seriously interested to learn that she uses two foundations to reverse contour – a term she learned from YouTuber Jackie Aina. Instead of using foundation and a contour product, Winnie uses two foundations, a darker shade to sculpt the outer areas of the face, and a lighter shade in the center to brighten.

4. Rihanna’s Dark Circle Hack

It’s safe to say we’ve spent hours researching and trialing the best concealer hacks to hide our dark circles. However, Rihanna uses dark circles to her advantage and plays into them by buffing a deeper eyeshadow along her lower lash line to create drama and depth while simultaneously hiding any darkness – kinda like a natural eyeliner. Pretty genius.

5. Khloe Kardashian’s Easy Contour Hack

via Vogue

According to Khloe, her sisters Kim and Kourtney were gifted a makeup masterclass for their sweet sixteen where they learned this essential contour hack: The classic rule of “drawing a 3” that will frame your face. Essentially, use your bronzer or contouring shade in a ‘3’ shape, sweeping your product from your forehead around your hairline, under your cheekbones, then back around and under your jaw. Khloe then shares one of her personal hacks to conceal a double chin… She creates a shadow underneath her jaw in a triangular shape, blending it down towards her neck.

6. Candice Swanepoel’s Healthy Glow

via Vogue

For a healthy glow, Candice likes to mix and match complexion products with skincare. She starts by spritzing her beauty blender with rose water to dampen the sponge for a dewy skin finish, which also helps to hydrate and nourish her skin. Then she mixes a full coverage concealer with a drop of face oil – it’s very similar to the yoga skin trend from 2019 – to give a glowy look that still adds coverage.

7. Alexa Demie’s Eyeshadow Hacks

via Vogue

Breakout star from the TV show Euphoria, Alexa Demie is our newest girl crush! Her mom is a makeup artist, so Alexa grew up loving makeup, and the one thing her mother always taught her was to blend, blend, blend. So naturally, when it comes to eyeshadow, Alexa has some bomb blending hacks.

To intensify eyeshadow pigments, Alexa uses a dense blending brush and packs the eyeshadow onto her lid by pressing it gently into the skin. Then she blends it out with a soft brush using a ‘windscreen wiper’ motion. To diffuse the shadow for a seamless finish, she then works the shadow into the crease with a blending brush. Finally, when she’s finished adding depth to her crease, she goes back in with a nude shadow to soften the edges.

8. Emily Ratajkowski‘s 90s Blush Hack

via Vogue

For a youthful and rosy look, Emily applies a cream blush to the apples of her cheeks, moving in an upwards motion towards her undereye; this helps create color where you’d naturally blush. She also dabs a little blush onto the bridge of her nose for a 90s vibe. To bring the look together, Emily applies a brightening concealer to her under eyes, which helps soften the look.

9. Hailey Beiber’s Application Technique

via Vogue

While most MUAs and celebs swear by makeup brushes, Hailey Beiber uses her fingers. While using your hands isn’t revolutionary, her quick dabbing technique definitely makes it unique. To apply her foundation, concealer, even her lipstick, Hailey lightly dabs the products into her skin. The heat from her finger allows the product to blend together for a natural yet flawless finish. The stimulation also revitalizes the skin, which is why it’s a favored skincare application technique in K-Beauty.

10. Taylor Hill’s Harmonious Makeup Hack

via Vogue

Monochromatic makeup is one of 2020’s biggest makeup trends and as it turns out, Taylor Hill has been a fan of the look for years. To create a cohesive everyday look, Taylor uses her contour and blush palette on her eyes as well as on her cheeks. First, she applies the blush shade to the center of her lids for a pop of color, then she adds depth and dimension to her crease using the bronzed contour shade. Not only does this help create a harmonious makeup look, but it makes makeup-on-the-go so much simpler.
