6 Free At-Home Workouts You Need To Stay Active

We know how easy it is to get wrapped up in everything going on right now in the world. While staying informed is important, there’s certainly a line between obsessing over your social media feeds and stepping back for a little self-care. One of the best ways to treat yourself amid self or mandated quarantine is to meaningfully move your body – aka get your sweat on – but that’s not so easy when gyms are closed, or if you’re stuck at home.

Fear not! There are plenty of online resources that allow you to get your workout in without ever leaving the house. We rounded up six of our favorites, and the best part is that they’re all FREE. (P.S. If you live somewhere warm, consider taking your workout to the backyard! Otherwise, open all the blinds and let the light in – you need it!)

1. To Target & Sculpt: Blogilates Workout Series on YouTube

Cassie Ho was a pioneer in online workouts and is an absolute delight. She’s body-positive, innovative, and knows how to make workouts fun, which is priority number one when it comes to fitness. Most of her workouts are about 10 to 20 minutes long and focus on a specific body party, like arms, butt, or abs. They’re meant to be stacked together, and she even has monthly fitness planners to hold you accountable. In light of everything going on, Cassie just came up with a 14-Day Quarantine Workout Plan, so go get it, besties.

2. To Tighten & Tone: PureBarre On Demand

Whether you’re a barre fiend or you have zero idea what this “barre” thing even is, PureBarre’s On-Demand classes might just be a savior for you during this quarantine. PureBarre classes are essentially a low-impact combination of pilates, ballet, and calisthenics that tones your body like crazy. The movements are small, but they’ll have you shaking in the moment and so sore the next day. There’s a free seven-day trial, and if you’re a current member with a closed studio you get free access to the online classes.

3. To Add Definition: Tone It Up

Tone It Up is an app-based fitness program started by two passionate women. The app features hundreds of different on-demand workouts ranging from HIIT to yoga to kickboxing, each with a fitness trainer guide to coach you along the way. In light of COVID-19, they’re offering 30 days of free classes to new users (through April 12).

4. To Feeeel Yourself: Dance Fitness with Jessica on YouTube

Consider Jessica’s Bass James’ Dance Fitness classes the updated version of Zumba. She’s been teaching dance for over eight years and makes working out a blast with choreographed dance routines to today’s hits. She posts a lot of free videos to her YouTube channel which should tide you over, but if you end up loving the workouts and want more you can opt for a $19.99/month subscription.

5. To Stretch: Yoga with Adriene on YouTube

Cardio is great, but don’t forget to stretch it out once or twice a week, too. Yoga is a great way to do that, especially if you want to improve stability, flexibility, and tone your body. You’ve got a lot of free options, but one of our all-time favorites is Yoga with Adriene. All her classes are available on YouTube, and she even offers a “Yoga For Beginners” and “Foundations of Yoga” series for those who are new to the craft.
