Last year, we saw a ton of TikTokers snip their manes from the comfort of their home in favor of ultra-trendy curtain bangs. And ever since Kendall Jenner debuted her tousled, wispy bangs just a few weeks ago, it became clear the trend is here to stay.
But fret not, bang newbies! Hairstylist to Kim K and J. Lo, Chris Appleton, just came through with the easiest technique to cut curtain bangs in five minutes flat. Hit play to learn from a legend and get a transformative makeover at-home.

How To Cut DIY Curtain Bangs
A few things to be mindful of before you get snipping – start with dry hair, as Chris does in this tutorial. Plus, ensure you’re in a room with great lighting so you can see your strands clearly, and opt for a sharp pair of scissors for a more effortless trim (no kitchen scissors here!). Here’s Chris’ quick step-by-step guide:
Step 1: Using the ends of your eyebrows as a guide, section off the front of your hair into a triangular shape using a comb.
Step 2: Pull one side to the opposite side and carefully snip at a diagonal angle using the tips of your scissors to cut upwards.
Step 3: Repeat on the opposite side.
Step 4: Spritz on a heat protectant like the TPH by TARAJI HENSON Hot Commodity Heat Protecting Spray, $14, to protect your strands, then blow-dry your new face-framing curtain bangs with a large round brush and let them fall gorgeously into place.
Step 5 (Optional): Gently spritz a texturizing spray like COLOR WOW Raise the Root Thicken and Lift Spray, $24, to add volume to your lewk.
