Girl-Crush-Beauty-Trends

The world is slowly starting to abandon sweatpants and welcome makeup, outdoor clothes, and all the glam moments that come along with it, which includes the mandatory selfie. And over the past few weeks, all of our fave girl crushes have been posting the most insane looks on IG and we couldn’t be more obsessed. The general theme? It’s edgy, nostalgic, and has a lot of attitude. Just wait, you’ll see what we mean as soon as you meet the lewks…

Grunge Girl Beauty

Everyone’s fave beauty influencer, Danielle Marcan, has somehow made us fall in love with grunge girl beauty. It’s no secret that grunge is seriously trending right now – on TikTok the “grunge” hashtag has hit 1.6 billion views alone, while #grungeaesthetic, #grungemakeup and #grungegirl have over 180 million views combined, which is wild. However, Danielle manages to translate the vibe with a glam, sexy finish and we’re so into it. And don’t sweat if this Avril-inspired look isn’t your cup of tea, she also brings a grungey finish to more understated looks, like the one below.

The key element to grunge is a LOT of eyeliner, a trend we saw long before TikTok’s obsession on the SS and AW 2021 runways at Chanel and Dior. Whether you opt for a smokey shadow or an exaggerated wing, there’s no such thing as too much liner for this cool-girl trend.

Stacked Eyeliner

If you need some help planning your weekend glam, take note from bombshells like Doja Cat, Yara Shahidi, and Adut Akech Bior. Honestly, could we be crushing any harder? All of these icons put their own twist on the edgy liner trend, from Doja Cat at the BBMAs to Yara’s pop of blue.

When trialing this trend at home, remember to prep your lid so that your eyeliner remains crisp throughout the day. This means applying an eyeshadow primer like the Urban Decay Original Eyeshadow Primer Potion, $13, then dusting your lid with a translucent setting powder.

Bleached Brows

As 2020 drew to a close, Pinterest predicted that bleached eyebrows would be one of 2021’s biggest trends based on search data from its users. We have to admit at the beginning of the year, we couldn’t see ourselves experimenting with the trend, but now we’re kinda into it.

Side note: if you’re not familiar with @ellessechar, AKA this bleached brow queen, you need to follow her STAT.

If you haven’t met our other girl crush, Isamaya French, let us introduce you. She’s a makeup artist who has worked with the likes of Kate Moss, Bella Hadid, and Rihanna. More recently, she collaborated with Byredo for Byredo Beauty and if you haven’t checked it out yet, get on it. Needless to say, she’s leading the industry trends and she’s a huge fan of bleached brows.

Zig Zag Partings

Erm, hello early 2000s beauty is that you? Yes, we’re not kidding… the parting of your high school years has come back, and it’s being championed by supermodel Bella Hadid. According to TikTok, the side parting is dead, which has swiftly made room for this Y2K trend to come to fruition.

When we first saw Bella Hadid experimenting with the trend, we were unsure if it would make it to the mainstream. Then in comes Gen Z it girl, Dixie D’Amelio, who has already styled the parting with a sleek low ponytail paired with a sexy, smokey eye. And we have to admit it, we’re seriously feeling it.

Perma-Trends

If you’re currently feeling fatigued by the flurry of trends coming your way, this one’s for you. A perma-trend is an insider term for a look that will never go out of style. However, don’t assume that just because it’s classic, it’s boring. For it to qualify as a perma-trend, it needs to be iconic, born from a beauty “moment.” Case in point: the 90s supermodel glam that Naomi Campbell popularized.

Looking for a 2021 perma-trend? Mermaid waves. The iconic moment? Zendaya at the Oscars. Need another? The high ponytail? The iconic moment? Ariana. That’s all we need to say.
