Is Frotox The New Botox?

Botox is now THE most popular cosmetic procedure in the USA, loved for its ability to take years off by relaxing the muscles that cause fine lines and wrinkles. But there’s a new treatment in town, and it could be the next big thing! The new treatment in question is called cryotherapy but is more commonly known as Frotox due to its skin-firming effects that are similar to Botox. Frotox will help soften the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, knocking years off your skin. However, unlike Botox, you’re not inserting any toxins into your skin to freeze your face, instead, you’re freezing the nerves that control the muscles that cause wrinkles to form. Here’s everything you need to know about the hottest new treatment on the block:

How It Works

Without transporting you back into high school chemistry, Frotox uses a technique that delivers highly pressurized liquid nitrogen to your nerves. When the nitrogen reaches the nerve, it changes into a gas, which then draws in heat from the surrounding tissues to form a controlled cold zone of around – 80c. So in more basic terms, you freeze the nerve, which causes your facial muscles to relax, consequentially improving the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It’s kinda like when you’re outside during the winter, and your fingers are numbed by the cold, but instead, you’re targeting specific areas to numb and relax your facial muscles, diminishing any tension. This will then help improve stubborn wrinkles, reduce inflammation and tighten and tone your skin. Effectively making you look at least five years younger in just twenty minutes. But don’t get Frotox confused with a Cyro-facial, which is another popular treatment that uses ice-cold temperatures to improve the appearance of your skin.

The Process

The procedure only takes around twenty minutes, and you’ll experience the benefits almost instantly, whereas Botox normally takes a couple of days to kick in. The effects will last around four to six months and will typically cost around $350-400 per session, which is roughly the same as Botox. During the procedure, you’ll experience some discomfort and numbness, but there’s no acute feeling of pain. The procedure is still undergoing trials in the USA and Europe, so it’s not as widely available as Botox. However, within the next two years, it’s expected to be available in most cosmetic surgeries.
