Best-tinted-moisturizer

Our beauty routine has been flipped upside down in lockdown; our skincare obsession has reached new heights but our daily makeup routine has taken a backseat. However, one makeup product we still find ourselves reaching for – it makes us feel a bit more normal – is a tinted moisturizer. And honestly, a little coverage from a tinted moisturizer is all we need to feel a little fresher on a Zoom call. So, here are our fave tinted moisturizers that leave our skin looking and feeling healthy and glowy.

1. For Medium Coverage: Maybelline Dream Urban Cover Flawless Coverage Foundation Makeup, SPF 50, $11

Shades: 16
Coverage:
Medium

Last summer we became obsessed with the Maybelline Dream Urban Cover Flawless Coverage Foundation Makeup, SPF 50, $11, as it not only provides medium coverage with a healthy-skin finish, but it also offers SPF 50, which is pretty insane! The formula is designed to protect your skin with a high-performance sunblocker and free radical-fighting antioxidants, like vitamin E and niacinamide. It feels super lightweight on your skin, blends out easily, and wears well throughout the day. For $11, we’re sold! Check out our full review for more deets.

2. For Dewy Skin: Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer Natural Skin Perfector Broad Spectrum SPF 30, $47

Shades: 20 shades
Coverage:
Sheer

When it comes to tinted moisturizers, this is the cult fave – and for good reason – as it instantly enhances your natural glow, giving you a dewy, luminous finish. We love how it effortlessly evens out our complexion without hiding our freckles. The formula also boasts skincare benefits with their hydrating complex made up of kukui seed and macadamia oil to increase the skin’s moisture levels and soothe dry skin.

It also protects against harmful UV rays with broad-spectrum SPF 30 and a blend of antioxidants to protect your skin from aging free radicals. If you have oily skin, try setting it with a little powder to prevent it from moving throughout the day.

3. For Glowing Skin: Kosas Tinted Face Oil, $42

Shades: 10 ranging from fair to deep
Coverage:
Light to medium

When this product first landed on our desk, we were kinda skeptical about the concept of a tinted face oil – surely it would a) provide zero coverage or b) slip and slide all day long. To our surprise, it didn’t. In fact, it’s one of the best products we’ve tried this year.

The Kosas Tinted Face Oil is a lightweight formula that can be built from light to medium coverage. It features three types of pigment in a blend of six botanicals oils including brightening rosehip, hydrating avocado, jojoba oil, rejuvenating green tea seed oil, as well as red raspberry oil, which helps even out skin tone. So in short, it delivers buildable coverage with a stunning dewy finish, while working overtime to hydrate and replenish your skin – we’re obsessed! To find out more, check out our full review.

Application tip: If you’re applying this after your morning skincare routine, make sure your moisturizer is fully absorbed.

4. For Skincare Benefits: Sisley Phyto-Hydra Teint Moisturizer, $120

Shades: 3 ranging from fair to tan
Coverage:
Light

If you’re looking for an excuse to treat yourself, this tinted moisturizer is the perfect opportunity. The tinted formula will instantly hydrate your skin while providing a light veil of color-correcting coverage. With continual use, it’ll also help improve the skin’s texture as it contains a cocktail of plant-based extracts with both rejuvenating and astringent properties to brighten and refine the skin. SPF 15 offers light skin protection from UVA and UVB rays while vitamin E and buckwheat seed extract shield the skin from aging free radicals. The only thing we don’t love about this formula is the disappointing shade range, which only caters for light to tan skin tones.

5. DIY Tinted Moisturizer

You can also work with whatever foundation you have at home. DIY your own tinted moisturizer by combining your foundation and moisturizer or a hydrating primer (Check out our fave drugstore foundations here). All you need to do is mix one pump of foundation with a drop of moisturizer or primer, either on a mixing tray or the back of your hand, and apply as usual. We love to use our #FauxFilter Foundation, $40, with the Complexion Perfection Pre-Makeup Base, $35.

If you like a dewy finish (or your skin needs extra hydration) add a drop of face oil into the mix – it’ll leave your skin looking super luminous and healthy.

Application tip: When applying your tinted moisturizer, ditch the sponge and use your hands instead (just make sure they’re clean). Simply apply 2-3 dots to the center of your face and blend outwards using your fingertips.
