This AhhhMAZING DIY Acne Mask Is Our New Go-To
When you’re treating acne-prone skin, the last thing you want to do is overwhelm it with a ton of harsh ingredients. That’s where this super easy, all-natural DIY comes in to save the day. This gentle, three-ingredient face mask will help soothe and calm your skin by detoxing pores, reducing inflammation, enhancing your skin’s defensive barrier, and fighting acne bacteria and damaging free radicals. Here’s everything you need to know:
The Ultimate DIY Acne Mask
What makes this DIY so damn good is its ingredient list; kefir, tomato, and honey. Each ingredient is a skincare savior in its own right, making this mask the ultimate DIY powerhouse.
Let’s begin by talking about kefir, a type of fermented milk made from a variety of milk and bacteria that’s rich in probiotics, calcium, and proteins. It’s similar to yogurt but it’s packed with even more goodies! Most importantly, it helps restore your skin’s microbiome, thereby improving your skin’s defensive barrier, which will improve your skin’s ability to fight off acne-inducing bacteria as well as retain essential hydration, vitamins, and nutrients. Kefir also has anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties to help soothe and fight bacteria. For more deets on how probiotics can help your skin, read this.
Honey is our go-to acne-busting ingredient. Again, it’s an amazing anti-inflammatory so it’ll help reduce swelling and redness in the skin. It’s also a natural humectant, meaning it’ll draw in moisture to hydrate the skin. Just make sure you use raw honey, which means it hasn’t been processed and thereby retains all the natural goodness – processed honey is boiled, which means most of honey’s natural benefits are destroyed.

Finally, tomatoes provide a surge of vitamins, most importantly vitamin A, which can help counter p. acnes bacteria. Tomatoes are also rich in vitamin C, a potent antioxidant that fights skin-damaging free radicals while also helping to brighten the appearance of acne scars. Tomato is also a natural astringent, so it’ll reduce excess sebum (oil) on the surface of your skin, thereby lowering the chance of oil buildup that results in blackheads and whiteheads.
How to: Cut the tomato in half and peel off the skin, then using a fork, mush up the tomato. Mix 1 tablespoon of kefir into the bowl and 1 teaspoon of honey until the mixture is well combined. Apply the mixture to your face and leave it on for ten minutes. Wash off with warm water and follow with your fave moisturizer. We’d recommend doing this mask once a week to combat breakouts and restore your skin: the stronger your skin’s microbiome, the healthier it will be!
Remember to always be gentle with your skin. That means don’t over-exfoliate, avoid using too many harsh ingredients on your skin, and always hydrate and don’t pick. Check out our ultimate skin routine to soothe and calm acne-prone skin here.
