Drugstore Product Of The Week: The $11 Matte Lipstick You'll Fall In Love With

If there’s one product we can never have enough of, it’s a liquid lipstick, yet finding a good one is more tricky than you think – especially if you don’t want to fork out more than $20. So, here’s the thing; we’ve tried a lot of drugstore liquid lipsticks (cute packaging and great prices), but none of them have been ‘doing’ it for us – there’s always a catch! Either the shade collection is limited with too few shades that actually suit most skin tones, or they smell really funky (we won’t name names), or they have a sticky consistency that feels more like a gloss… We’ve tried a lot!

But we did find one that ticked all the boxes – good applicator, color spectrum, formula, and wear – and gave us a little more: The Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Liquid Lipsticks, $11. Not only do they come in 37 shades of seriously gorgeous reds, pinks, browns, oranges, and berry hues (we guarantee you’ll love at least five shades!), but we’re also a little bit obsessed with the formula. As the name implies, it literally feels like velvet on your lips, and we love the sexy, soft-blur velvet-affect finish. The doe-foot applicator and the smooth texture make application VERY easy and precise, and it doesn’t feel drying, like some liquid lipsticks can do.

The only thing we will say is this isn’t completely transfer-proof, so if you want something that will last through food, drinks and under the mistletoe, then this might not be for you (without eating this lasts a good few hours). It does have a semi-staining effect, so even where it does lift off, you’re not left with obvious lines. The other good thing is, as it’s so easy to apply, you can swipe this on in seconds without the need for a mirror – so topping up isn’t a mission. It works perfectly without a lip liner, but for added drama and more precise definition, it’s even more beautiful with a lip liner.

Have you guys tried this? We still can’t decide our fave shades, but we love the pink berry tones and rich red shades so much! Let us know what you think in the comments below.
