Revlon One-Step Hair Dryer & Volumizer

If you’re anything like us, you’re always looking for ways to cut down your morning routine, and is there anything more tedious than blow-drying and styling your hair? While we love to air-dry our hair as often as we can, sometimes you need to dry it and style it fast, and that’s when it can be damaging – blasting your hair on the highest heat then using straighteners or curling tongs definitely isn’t good for your hair health.

We decided to finally try one of the most hotly reviewed products on Amazon, which essentially looks like the lazy girl’s dream for hair styling… The Revlon One-Step Hair Dryer & Volumizer Hot Air Brush, $57. A brush that as you probably guessed from its name, is designed to style and dry your hair at the same time – hello!!

We tested it out on different hair types and people with different levels of styling skills to get the full rundown on how it works and who it’s great for. Here’s everything you need to know about the Revlon One-Step Hair Dryer & Volumizer Hot Air Brush.

What it is: A large brush with nylon and plastic bristles that detangle and grip your hair as hot air blows through vents to dry and style your hair. The brush has ionic technology (negative ions maintain a neutral charge on the hair surface that reduces frizz and static) that helps to give faster drying time while making the hair feel silky-smooth and look extra shiny. It also has a ceramic coating that helps to protect the hair by reducing damage.

What we thought: This brush is genius and can serve several purposes! First up, it dramatically decreases the time it takes to dry our hair with a regular blow dryer, so if you’re drying your hair from wet, this will definitely save you time. If you have the skills to blow dry your hair properly with a round brush, this will give similar results, but it’s also much quicker and easier. Finally, if you’ve always wanted to be able to do that salon-quality blow-dry with a round brush but have never had the skills or patience to do it, then this is your solution!

Here are the results of hair dried with a blow drier and no brush V.s hair dried with the Revlon One-Step Hair Dryer & Volumizer:

The brush has a cool tip at the end, which makes it easier to hold and style your hair in hard-to-reach places. The brush has three heat settings; one with high-intensity airflow and max heat (it’s not too hot), another with lower intensity airflow and mild heat, and finally a cool setting that can be used to set your hair. We recommend using the cooler settings at the roots to help hold volume.

The brush also has an oval design, with two rounded edges and two flat sides. Depending on the style you want to achieve, use different sides of the brush. Finally, the brush also has a six foot long swivel cord, which means the cable doesn’t get tangled or knotted while you use it – a small detail, but one that makes a big difference to your stress levels!

Side note: When we first tried this brush, we had the two-pin plug that is designed for the U.S., which didn’t go down very well when we plugged it into our three-pin sockets here in Dubai. For that reason, we would caution you to ensure the drier comes with a plug that works for your region to make sure that it’s compatible with your outlets. Of the 17,000 glowing reviews on Amazon (the brush is rated 4.4. out of 5), the majority of the negative reviews highlight this as an issue.

The benefits: Whether you’re just drying your hair or styling it, this will definitely save you time. We also found that it made our hair look much sleeker and shinier when we used the One-Step Hair Dryer & Volumizer than when we just used our regular blow-drier.

Our Experience With the One-Step Hair Dryer & Volumizer:

The novice: As someone who has very straight, volume-lacking hair, I often just dry my hair and don’t bother with much else. I was super excited to try this to see if I could get some shape and volume into my hair seeing as I have absolutely no skill with a round brush and blow-drier. The first time I tried it I was able to achieve that nice blow-dry effect where the hair curls in towards your face. After a few more tries with the brush, I pulled and held the brush up at the roots, which helped me to achieve more volume. I was really happy with the look and it’s something I’d never be able to achieve with my regular blow dryer, plus it dried my hair so much faster!

The pro: I have long thick, wavy hair, and I’m pretty good at blow-drying my hair with a round-brush that gives me sleek hair and great shape. I found this really easy to use, and although I think I can achieve slightly more dramatic results with my round brush and dryer, using the One-Step Hair Dryer took me literally half the time, which is a major bonus for me. I would definitely prefer to use this on a regular basis (it saves so much time!) and just save my round brush routine for special occasions.

The air-dryer: I have naturally very thick S-curls and I typically let my hair air dry to maintain my curl pattern. If I do ever blow-dry it, I use a cool-setting and a diffuser. Usually, when I get my hair blow-dried, it takes two people and they often straighten my hair at the roots. I had to brush my hair a lot before I used this, and it did pull out a few hairs. I did my hair in very small sections and was really impressed with how sleek and smooth this managed to make my hair. I also like to straighten my hair sometimes, but as it takes so long I don’t often do it. However, I would definitely buy this to use before my straighteners, as it considerably cuts down styling time with the straighteners. I also like that it doesn’t get too hot, so it doesn’t feel like it’s damaging your hair.

Our Tips for Using the One-Step Hair Dryer & Volumizer:

  • Brush your hair well first to avoid pulling and tugging your hair, then use a heat protection spray and any other styling or smoothing creams that you might usually use.
  • Section your hair to make it easier to control and for better, sleeker results.
  • To speed up the process, brush your hair through with the brush on the high heat setting a few times before styling, as this makes it quicker to get from wet to sleek. Alternatively, for quicker styling and less damage, let your hair air-dry a little first.
  • Hold the brush in the hair, wrapping your hair around the brush for the best volume and curl, aka don’t pass it too quickly through your hair, as it will take longer to dry and style.
  • The curlier your hair, the more product you should apply prior to styling to both protect and get the best results. If you have very curly hair, you might find the bristles too densely packed to pass comfortably through your hair.
  • For more of a curled finish, keep twisting the hair around the brush, with emphasis on the narrower side of the brush for more curl. For a straighter hair look, concentrate placing the hair on the flatter side.
  • For extra volume, pull the brush up vertically at the roots, but hold the brush here for a few seconds before pulling through the rest of your hair. Try using a cooler temperature setting on this area for max volume.

The Verdict:

We love how easy to use this is and the fact that it’s really multipurpose – use it to dry your hair faster or for a more sleek and smooth finish, or use it to create a professional-level blow-dry look. If you don’t know how to use a blow drier and a brush, this will be your new best friend. If you’re already familiar with using a blow drier and a brush, then although the One-Step Hair Dryer & Volumizer may not give you better results, it will definitely take you less time. Overall, we’re super impressed with the Revlon One-Step Hair Dryer & Volumizer, and for $57 (current price on Amazon), we really don’t have anything to complain about.
