DIY Friday: The Best DIY Face Oil For Oily Skin

Acne

Your skincare regime isn’t complete without a face oil – it’s the key to hydrated, soft skin. And before you think ‘well my skin’s oily so it doesn’t need any extra hydration,’ it is possible to have oily yet dehydrated skin. In fact, if your skin is dehydrated, it could be producing even more oil in an attempt to compensate for the lack of moisture. The only problem with face oils is they can be pretty expensive, which is why we’ve been concocting our own recipes for over a year now – it’s developed into a full-scale beauty obsession. Our fave DIY face oil takes less than a minute to make and will only cost you $10 – it’s revolutionary!

Why You NEED A Face Oil

Face oils are super effective because they’re lipophilic. Translation: they have a smaller molecular structure, which means they can penetrate further into your skin, allowing your skin to retain hydration at a deeper level. A good facial oil will also repair and protect the skin’s barrier, preventing further moisture loss. Plus, oils are one of the rawest and richest formulas so unlike other skin care products like moisturizers, they’re not diluted.

Why You Need To Make Your Own Face Oil

Okay, so now you understand how amazing facial oils are, here are the basics when it comes to making your own. There are two types of oils: a carrier oil (like grapeseed oil or sweet almond oil), which will act as your base, and essential oils (like tea tree or eucalyptus), which are more potent and powerful! Make sure you use high-quality, cold-pressed, organic oils as these won’t contain any nasty chemical or toxins. The general rule we stick to is: for every 30ml of carrier oil, spice it up with 1-2 drops of essential oil. You can mix carrier oils, just make sure you keep the same ratio of carrier oil to essential oil the same. We like to keep our DIY face oil in a glass bottle: it’s luxe AF, makes for a great #shelfie, and it’s practical, reusable, and waste-free.

Our Fave DIY For Oily Skin

This DIY Face oil is amazing for oily skin – it’s super light, so it won’t leave your skin feeling greasy or clog your pores, yet it’s crazy hydrating. Both jojoba oil and eucalyptus are both antibacterial and anti-inflammatory, which will help prevent breakouts and soothe any existing pimples. Jojoba oil will also help control oil production by tricking your body into producing less oil, as the wax-like oil mimics real sebum. It’s also full of antioxidants and beauty-boosting vitamin B and C, which will help brighten your skin.

Ingredients
30ml of Grapeseed oil
30 ml of Jojoba oil
2 drops of Eucalyptus oil.

Combine the oils in a glass bottle. Rub the bottle in the palm of your hands to mix the oils together. Then, using a dime-sized amount of mixture, warm the oil in your palms to activate the ingredients. Gently massage the oil onto cleansed, toned, exfoliated, moisturized skin. Don’t forget your neck and décolletage as this area is super delicate and is the first to show signs of aging. We’d also only recommend using a face oil at night, to avoid midday shine!
