With all the craziness that’s going on in the world RN, practicing self-love and establishing some daily wellness rituals has never been more important. Over the last few weeks, we’ve actioned these five habits and they’ve not only helped soothe our mind but our skin too. We’ve all heard the expression healthy skin comes from within, and it’s true! If we’re stressed and not taking the time to eat and sleep well, our skin will mirror that; meaning you’re more likely to break out and experience dull, lackluster skin. Here are some quick and easy wellness rituals that will help you (and your skin) to stay happy and healthy.

1. Practice Gratitude While Sippin’ on Lemon Water

To kickstart your day with a slice of positivity, practice gratitude accompanied by a cup of warm water and lemon. The ritual may seem simple, but studies have shown that practicing daily gratitude can reduce anger and depression while increasing levels of happiness and empathy. It’s times like these that make us appreciate the simple things like a delicious meal, the fresh air, or a call with our loved ones, so each morning try to name five things you’re grateful for. We add a cup of warm water with a wedge of lemon, as lemon water helps to detox your digestive system and it’s a great source of immune-boosting vitamin C.

2. Sculpt Your Skin Using Gua Sha

Gua Sha is one of our favorite skincare rituals because it provides insane instant and long-term results. If you’re thinking Gua-Sha-what? We’ll let Gua Sha goddess and Founder of Noy Skincare, Danna Omari, explain all of the deets…

“Gua Sha is an incredibly relaxing therapy that is performed using gentle strokes to massage, manipulate and stimulate specific energy lines and points along the face. Done consistently, Gua Sha helps to improve the function of the skin which helps with many skin conditions; Deep lines and wrinkles, sagging skin, rosacea, acne, acne scars, pigmentation, dark circles, puffiness. It retrains the muscles of the face, relaxing them, strengthening, lifting and toning.”

Asides from the skincare benefits, the ritual itself is very therapeutic. The continual movements help soothe the mind and as it boosts lymphatic drainage, you’re also removing toxins from your body. We also find this technique really helps with headaches or neck tension. To learn how to master the massage technique, read our full Gua Sha guide.

3. Meditate for 10 Minutes a Day

Studies have shown that daily meditation can help reduce levels of stress and anxiety, while also increasing your attention span and fueling productivity. Other studies have proven that the practice makes you more compassionate and kind to others as you’re more considerate of other people’s emotions. There are even skincare benefits due to the focus on breathing, which means you deliver more oxygen to the skin and this can help to promote cellular health. The increased levels of oxygen will also enable your skin to rejuvenate more efficiently, helping you maintain that glow!

Start by meditating for just 10 minutes a day: five minutes when you wake up and again before you go to sleep. It’s literally just 10 minutes but it can make such a difference to your mental state. Plus, there are now so many free apps on offer, there’s no excuse! Our go-to is Headspace as it allows you to create a personalized wellness plan, plus it has some soothing bedtime stories, which are great if you’re ever struggling to fall sleep.

4. Give Yourself a DIY Facial

As much as we love investing in the latest facial trend, learning how to give yourself a DIY facial is an essential beauty skill. Regardless of your skincare concern, it’s a relatively simple process: our usual routine consists of six steps. Even if you don’t have a wide array of skincare products, there are so many simple DIYs you can do like an essential oil facial steam or a three-ingredient face mask. Check out our DIY facial routine for our step by step guide. Not only does your skin benefit but it also provides some much-needed downtime.

5. Have a Detoxifying Bath

Baths are a great way to detox and zen at the end of the day, and a few simple additions to your bath routine can transform your bath from basic to boujee in minutes. Try adding three or four drops of your fave essential oil – the aromatherapy properties will help you de-stress and relax. Take lavender oil as an example, the scent is proven to reduce emotional stress, calm nerves, and even improve the quality of your sleep, making it the perfect addition to an evening bath. Another great thing to add to the mix is Epsom salts, as they help detoxify the body and promote healing. They’re also a rich source of magnesium, so they can improve the quality of your sleep. Don’t forget to light a candle and play some relaxing music.

Of course, feel free to get creative with other additions: we like to take the opportunity to apply a face mask and a hair mask while sipping on some vino AND watching an episode of Friends #SorryNotSorry. Check out our tips for the best bath of your life here.
