Why scalp scrubs are the BOMB.com
If you want tresses like Rapunzel then you need to get your weekly scalp-scrubbing game on! When you exfoliate your scalp, you’ll help rebalance the pH levels, while detoxifying and cleansing, meaning it’s less likely to become irritated, dry, and flakey. It’ll also help remove any product build-up, oil, and dead skin that’s blocking your pores, resulting in dirty, greasy hair. Plus, by massaging the scrub into your scalp you’ll stimulate blood circulation, delivering oxygen to your scalp, which will encourage hair growth and boost shine. Most scalp scrubs also include natural oils that contain antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals that’ll encourage growth, and strengthen and protect the hair follicle.
1. Detoxifying Salt Scrub
This scalp scrub majorly detoxes your scalp as it contains our fave miracle ingredient – apple cider vinegar. What makes apple cider vinegar so magical is it contains antifungal properties that will rid your scalp of dandruff by killing any fungus around your hair follicles, while also restoring your scalp’s natural pH levels. Combined with hydrating, nourishing ingredients like coconut oil and honey, it’s pretty much unstoppable.
¼ cup Himalayan ground pink salt (if you can’t find any, use coarse sea salt)
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar (preferably organic)
1 tablespoon of coconut oil (melted)
1 teaspoon honey
5 drops of peppermint or tea tree oil (you can skip this if you don’t have any)
You can also swap out apple cider vinegar for baking soda if you prefer.
Combine the ingredients in a bowl and stir. Apply a tablespoon onto damp hair, gently messaging it into your scalp. Leave the scrub on your hair for 5-10 minute before rinsing with warm water, followed by shampoo and conditioner.

2. Deep Cleansing Lemon Scrub
This scrub is SO simple yet SO effective. The combination of sea salt and lemon juice make for a super powerful exfoliator as the citric acid in the lemon juice is a natural chemical exfoliator, so it’ll help shed any dead skin and loosen any oil that’s blocking your hair follicles. The olive oil will hydrate your scalp and is full of beauty vitamins, like vitamin A and E, that’ll fight free radicals that trigger hair loss and hair fall.
2 tablespoons of sea salt
2 tablespoons of lemon juice
2 tablespoon of olive oil
Combine the ingredients together in a bowl. Apply to damp hair, massaging the scrub into your scalp to boost circulation. Rinse well with warm water, then follow with shampoo and conditioner.
3. Nourishing Sugar Scrub
This sugar scrub is kinda like a mixture between a hair mask and a scrub – it’s a win-win. It’s crazy nourishing as it contains both coconut and olive oil, which are full of fatty acids, vitamins, and antioxidants that’ll help strengthen the hair follicle. Muscovado sugar is also super soft, so it’ll gently exfoliate your scalp without being too harsh on your skin – if you have sensitive skin, this scrub is perfect for you. Finally, it’ll help hydrate your locks as it contains honey – a natural humectant that’ll draw in moisture.
3 tbsp of a Deep Conditioner
1 tbsp of Muscovado Sugar
1 tbsp of Honey
1 tbsp Extra Virgin Olive Oil
1 tbsp Coconut Oil
Mix all of the ingredients together in a bowl and apply to wet hair. Massage the mixture into your scalp, then coat your hair from root to tip. Cover your hair with a plastic cap (you can always use a grocery bag) and leave the treatment on your hair for 30 minutes. If you have curly hair, rinse out and let your hair air dry. If you have straight or fine hair, you may want to follow with your usual shampoo and conditioner, to avoid oily roots.
