Drugstore Product Of The Week: Our Fav Clay Masks
If there’s one thing we look forward to at the end of a busy day, it’s some pamper time! Literally, there’s nothing we love more than Netflixing or having a bath with a face mask on, it seems so relaxing yet kinda productive at the same time – it’s a win-win. And, while we love a DIY, for the days when even that seems like too much hassle, our new fav go-to is L’Oréal’s collection of clay masks, $13. With five different formulas, there’s a mask to suit every skin type, whether you want to soothe skin, refine pores, mattify skin, or bring back your glow. Plus, one pot typically lasts a couple of months if you’re using it every week, so that’s at least 10 masks per pot!
We’ve been loyal fans of L’Oréal’s clay masks ever since we tried the green one, aka the Purify & Mattify Face Mask with Eucalyptus abstract, which extracted so much oil from our pores we could literally see it pooling around our nose, forehead, cheeks, and chin – gross, but SO satisfying – definitely our fav mask for oily skin! Recently, they’ve added to their collection with two new options, and we loved them just as much! Once you’ve double cleansed, just smooth the mask that bests suits your skin’s needs over your face, sit back and chill out for 10 to 15 minutes, and let the mask do the hard work for you.
Each mask is formulated with three types of clay (kaolin, montmorillonite, and Moroccan lava), which extract oil and purify pores, while different extracts offer skin-enhancing benefits depending on what your skin needs. We’re breaking them down so you can find the right one for you:
For large pores and textured skin, the Exfoliate & Refining Face Mask, (the red one): This supercharged mask with pore-refining red algae and volcanic rock that gently exfoliates, is perfect for smoothing the skin and improving the appearance of pores. After 15 minutes, gently wash with water in circular motions for maximum exfoliation.
For stressed and inflamed skin, the Clear & Comfort Face Mask (the blue one): This seaweed infused clay mask is super soothing and comfortable. When your skin is tired or just needs some attention, this will help to balance and calm it – and make it incredibly soft too!
For acne-prone and congested skin, the Detox & Brighten Face Mask (the grey one): With one of our absolute fav DIY ingredients, activated charcoal powder, this deep cleaning mask uses the power of charcoal to draw out dirt, oil, and debris from the skin. This result is cleaner pores and a brighter complexion.
For oily skin prone to blackheads, the Purify & Mattify Face Mask, (the green one): As we mentioned, this is the bomb for extracting excess oil and mattifying skin! It’s star ingredient, eucalyptus, is a natural antiseptic and anti-inflammatory, so while it’s pulling out oil it’s also soothing and healing the skin.
For dull and textured skin, the Clarify & Smooth Face Mask, (the yellow one): If your skin is anything but glowy and feels more like a carpet than a soft leather bag, this mask with Yuzu Lemon will help to resurface and refresh skin. Remove with water in circular motions to get the exfoliating effect.
If you can’t decide, you can even use different masks in different areas. We like to use the green one on our T-zone to control oil, the red one on our cheeks to refine pores, and the blue one on the outer areas of our face.
