This Drugstore Mascara Is Like A Lash Lift In A Bottle

Maybelline Falsies Source: Maybelline

Maybelline mascaras are legendary in the drugstore world, even Meghan Markle opts for Maybelline over Chanel to get camera-ready lashes. So, when we heard that Maybelline had added a new mascara to their current collection, we knew we had to try it. Here’s our full review.

The Mascara

The new Maybelline Falsies Lash Lift Washable Mascara, $11, has an hourglass wand to hug and curl each lash with every swipe. The natural bristles help separate the lash from root to tip, adding drama and length, and the formula is infused with tiny fibers that help thicken the lashes. We found the mascara super easy to apply – unlike other fiber formulas that can get a bit clumpy –  and it glides on easily. We didn’t even have to clean the eye area post-application, making it great if you’re topping up on-the-go. We also didn’t experience any flaking or smudging, or any residue underneath the eye.

Maybelline_Before_After

We have to be honest, we weren’t sure if this mascara would deliver the same results as a lash lift, but we were won over, and the length it delivers with just a few coats is seriously impressive. We really love that it’s easily buildable so it can take you from a natural everyday lash to all-out glam. The wand also helps lift the lash for greater length so if you have short lashes, this is a no-brainer. If you’re looking for thickness, you will need to layer the formula. In comparison to our fave Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara, the Lash Lift doesn’t separate the lashes as much, so you get less of a fluttery finish. There’s also a waterproof sister, which is perfect for the summer months, or you know, if you’re watching The Notebook during quarantine.

Application Tip: When it comes to mascara application, there are so many tricks. Celeb MUA Ash K Holm, whose clientele includes Ariana and Kim Kardashian, shared her application tip for an hourglass-shaped wand: “I rotate the brush in a clockwise direction upward, to lock in the length and curl.” The twisting motion is really important with this mascara as it allows you to reach the base for the best lift.
