10 Makeup Products For People Who Hate To Cake Face
The no makeup-makeup look has dominated the beauty scene in the past year and we’re SO here for it. But the secret to perfecting natural glam is AAAAALL about finding the right products. Luckily, if you love a less is more approach to makeup, we have the ultimate au naturel roundup; from radiant, dewy foundations to soft creamy highlighters. Cake face, be gone…
1. Tarte Base Tape Hydrating Primer, $30
The first (makeup) step to a flawless complexion is a hydrating primer as it’ll help blur imperfections and minimize the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and pores. Plus, your makeup will apply more evenly and be longer-lasting: it’s a win-win. This hydrating primer from Tarte does exactly that while also nourishing the skin with jojoba and grapeseed extract, helping your skin stay hydrated and radiant. We love how easily it applies and how quickly it sinks in, and as it’s infused with skin-perfecting coconut, it smells divine.
2. Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter, $44
This is possibly one of the most versatile products on the list: it can be used as a primer, a glow enhancer, even as a highlighter. Whatever you choose, it will help create an airbrushed effect, leaving your skin looking lit-from-within. The formula contains finely milled powders to smooth away the appearance of imperfections, as well as a glossy oil to moisturize the skin and reflect light. We like to mix it in with our foundation – it makes our skin look really fresh and dewy. There are seven shades in total, which doesn’t sound like much, but one shade will cater to many complexion shades. Read our full review here.
3. Dior Forever Skin Glow 24h* Wear Radiant Perfection Foundation, $52
There are thousands of foundation formulas out there, but the Dior Forever Skin Glow recently climbed to the top of our list. From the moment it landed on our desk, we’ve been using it nearly every day thanks to it’s radiant, dewy finish that gives the ultimate natural makeup vibe. It also lives up to its long-lasting claim – it remained (almost) perfect until we wiped it away at nighttime, which is pretty insane. With that said, it’s definitely at the higher end of our budget. If you’re looking for something that’s a little more pocket-friendly, the Neutrogena Healthy Skin Liquid Makeup Broad Spectrum SPF 20, $15, is a great option; it’s like glass skin in a bottle (see our full review here).
4. YSL Touche Eclat High Cover Radiant Concealer, $35
The Touche Eclat has been a beauty editor staple for years, so when they revealed they were launching a sister concealer, the beauty world let out a squeal of joy. And it didn’t disappoint. The new Touche Eclat concealer offers medium to full coverage, although it still feels super lightweight and has a radiant finish so it doesn’t look cakey. In fact, it uses optical brightening technology, so the formula reflects light to diffuse and correct dark under eyes. For all our drugstore hunnies, a great alternative is the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circles Treatment Concealer, $10, which offers medium coverage with a natural finish.
5. Huda Beauty Tantour, $30
A lot of people associate contouring with cake face level glam, but with the right product, it can help create a natural yet sculpted finish. Our Huda Beauty Tantour is perfect as the crème to powder finish blends out reaaaaally easily so you’re not left with a heavy shadow but rather, a bronzed chiseled glow. The formula is so buttery you can even blend it out with your fingers. We also like to add warmth with the Rimmel Natural Bronzer Sunshine, $6; you can work it on top of your Tantour or wear it by itself.

6. Urban Decay Brow Blade Ink Stain + Waterproof Pencil, $26
Big bold brows are another makeup trend that has taken over in the past couple of years. Although, the trend has evolved past the #Instabrow into a much more natural boy brow and this product makes it SO easy to achieve. The double-ended brow product offers a waxy pencil formula, as well as an ink stain felt tip, that allows you to draw on singular brow hairs for naturally bushy brows. There are seven shades ranging from deep to fair, all of which are %100 waterproof.
7. Hourglass Vanish Highlighting Stick, $42
When it comes to highlighter, you need to be careful; too much and you look overdone, not enough and you’ve missed a makeup opportunity! The Hourglass Highlighter stick is a safe bet; the soft focus technology gives the skin a stunning luminosity. The stick formula also makes it easy to use, plus, you can target specific areas like your Cupid’s bow or cheekbones. We also love L’Oreal’s True Match Lumi Glow Amour Glow-Boosting Drops, $15; the liquid formula melts into your skin, providing a really dewy glow.
8. Wet N Wild MegaGlo Makeup Stick Blush, $5
A blush stick is a natural glow up essential, and this Mega Glow Makeup Stick is the bomb.com. The creamy, buttery texture melts into your skin, giving your cheeks a sexy flushed look. The formula is infused with jojoba oil, as well, to add a surge of moisture. It can also double up as a lip tint for a rosy pout. There are three shades in total: peach, golden, and rose – our fave is the Floral Majority, a feminine pink shade.
9. L’Oreal Lash paradise Voluminous Mascara, $10
This mascara has a cult following, including Queen Bee! The mascara gives your lashes a really sexy feathered effect in just a couple of coats. It’s easily buildable too, so if you do want to try a more dramatic lash, this mascara will double up easily.
10. Milani Keep It Full Nourishing Lip Plumper, $9
The finishing touch to barely-there makeup is a juicy lip gloss. We’re obsessed with the Milani Keep It Full Nourishing Lip Plumper, $9, which comes in loads of gorgeous, semi-sheer shades. The formula is infused with mega-hydrator hyaluronic acid and natural peptides to boost collagen, helping to smooth out lines and add volume. The non-sticky formulas gives a subtle tingling to plump up your lips and feels really comfortable on.
