DIY FRIDAY: The Ultimate Pore-Tightening DIY Setting Spray

DIY

We’ve all been there; your glam is fierce AF, your highlighter is popping, and your cut crease is next level, but then four hours later it’s a complete disaster! Your makeup has moved everywhere, and you’re pretty much a hot mess! To help you avoid this makeup faux pas, we’ve formulated a DIY setting spray that’ll keep your makeup in place, all day long. But this DIY setting spray won’t just help your makeup stay put; the all-natural ingredients will help tighten your pores, hydrate your thirsty skin, and soothe any irritation. So, you can say thank you next to that $30 setting spray and trade it in for this skin-saving DIY.

What makes this DIY setting spray so damn MAGICAL?

Don’t worry we haven’t promised you the setting spray of your dreams, without the goods (well, skincare science) to back it up. The first hero ingredient is witch hazel. Witch hazel is an astringent, so it’ll cause your skin tissue to contract, thereby minimizing the appearance of your pores. It also has anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties that help soothe inflammation.

Next up is rose water, a super soothing natural ingredient that will help hydrate and revitalize your skin. Rose water is bursting with antioxidants that help fight damaging free radicals that cause premature aging, which is why it’s a super popular ingredient in anti-aging products. And finally, an ingredient you may not be familiar with, but chances are it’s in all your skincare products; is glycerin. Glycerin is a colorless liquid that occurs naturally in our skin, and, because it’s a humectant, it means that it helps draw moisture into the upper layers of the dermis.

Of course, we added in some shimmer drops – because who doesn’t want to add a little glow?!

Ingredients:

1 tablespoon of witch hazel: We use the Swanson, Natural Organic Witch Hazel Facial Toner, $6, as it’s organic and USDA approved.
½ cup rose water: You can buy rose water from most supermarkets or health stores, or you can buy it on Amazon, here.
1 tablespoon of glycerin: We’re obsessed with the NOW Solutions Vegetable Glycerine, $6. Check out all the other things you can do with glycerin here.
1 glass spray bottle: We like to use a glass bottle as it’s reusable and waste-free!
2 drops of liquid highlighter: Our fave drugstore highlighter is the L’Oréal True Match Lumi Glow Amour Glow-Boosting Drops, $15.

Using a funnel, pour the ingredients into a glass bottle. Shake well and spray – yup, it’s that easy. Plus, you’ll have extra ingredients to mix up for your friends! We also like to mix one up without the highlighter and keep it in our bathroom to spray on our skin after toning.
