Toning is an essential step in every skincare regime – it not only helps remove any lingering residue or irritating chlorine and minerals, but it can also help tighten your pores and correct uneven skin tone. But since you need to tone twice a day, toners don’t have a very long shelf life. So, to save you the time, effort, and $$$ of running to the store, make one of our quick, easy, and most importantly, cheap DIY toners. We’ve even broken it down into skin type to cater to your skin’s unique needs. All you have to do is combine the ingredients in a glass bottle, shake well before use, apply to a cotton pad, and gently swipe over cleansed skin.

DIY Toner For Sensitive Skin

Ingredients:
½ cup of rose water
½ cup of aloe vera

This hydrating toner is super gentle, making it ideal for sensitive skin. Both rose water and aloe vera have anti-inflammatory properties so they’ll reduce redness and swelling. They’re also bursting with antioxidants to brighten the skin and fight free radicals that cause premature aging.

DIY Toner For Acne-Prone Skin

Ingredients:
1 cup of chamomile tea*
2 drops of tea tree oil

*Brew two tea bags in boiling water, when cool remove the tea bags and combine with the tea tree.

Tea tree is a potent anti-inflammatory and antibacterial, so it’ll ease any existing or painful pimples and fight acne bacteria, which will help prevent the breakout from spreading. Chamomile will also help calm and rebalance the skin, correcting uneven skin tone.

DIY Toner For Normal Skin

Ingredients:
1 cup of green tea*
1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar

*Brew two tea bags in boiling water, when cool remove the tea bags and combine with the apple cider vinegar.

The malic acid found in apple cider vinegar makes it one of the most powerful antifungal ointments, which makes it great at keeping breakouts at bay. It’ll also help rebalance the skin’s pH level, and as it contains AHAs, it’ll gently exfoliate the skin. Green tea is super potent too, as it’s a rich source of caffeine and is full of skin-saving antioxidants that protect the skin.

DIY Toner For Oily Skin

Ingredients:
½ cup rose water
½ cup of witch hazel
1/4 drops of aloe vera

Witch hazel is THE ingredient for oily skin as it’ll help remove any excess oil from the skin while controlling oil production. Hydrating aloe vera will also help absorb any oil, sebum or dirt in your pores making them appear smaller, as it’s a natural astringent, while simultaneously hydrating the skin.
