5-Minute Beauty Trends That Are SO Easy To Do

It’s no secret that 2020 has turned our daily beauty routine upside down. While we’d typically set aside (at least) an hour to get ready, five-minute glam has become the new norm. As a result, low maintenance beauty trends have dominated the runway and social media over the past few months and TBH, the lazy girl inside us will be forever thankful. From the celeb-favorite – the braided ponytail – to the only lip color seen during NYFW, here are our go-to beauty trends that you can achieve in under five minutes.

1. The Braided Ponytail

Ever since we predicted that the braided ponytail would be the next big trend, it’s been popping up everywhere – on the runway, the cover of magazines, and all over our Instagram feed. And despite the fact it’s the new It girl hairstyle, it can be achieved in just a few minutes with a couple of hair ties and a can of hair spray!

One of our favorite things about this chic and sexy trend is you can add your own flavor to the style; whether that’s by adding extensions, styling your baby hairs, or switching up the position of the braid. Or, if you’re feeling hella-boujee, diamante accessories like Normani.

A super-high ponytail is our go-to – it’s universally flattering as it accentuates your cheekbones for a snatched finish. However, if you want to create the illusion of a longer braid, position the ponytail slightly lower for a laid back finish. 2. Red Lipstick

Even though we’re wearing masks 24/7, the classic red lip is making a major comeback. The bold hue was seen all over the A/W 2020 runway, and most recently during the S/S 2021 shows at Versace and Dolce and Gabbana, suggesting the trend’s here to stay.

The secret to slaying a red lip is finding a shade that matches your skin’s undertone (find out how to determine your undertone here). If you have a warm undertone, opt for warm-toned lipsticks, which typically lean towards orangey hues, like coral, golden, copper and all the way to siennas and browns. If you fall into the cool skin tone category, look for lipsticks with blue hues like plum, cherry, mauve, crimson, and purples.

With that said, as we’re wearing masks so often, we highly recommend using a liquid matte formula as they’re typically longer lasting than glossy or sheer formulas and won’t smudge. Check out our fave long-lasting lipstick formulas here. Once you have the perfect shade in one of these life-proof formulas, check out our tips for how to apply the perfect red lip here.

3. Pigtails

It seems as if 90s hair trends will never die. The latest 90s hairstyle to make a resurgence is the schoolgirl staple: pigtails. Everyone from J.Lo to Cardi B has experimented with the playful hairstyle in the past month, even Ariana traded in her signature ponytail in favor of pigtails. And we totally understand the obsession – they’re super cute, easy to achieve, and are guaranteed to brighten up your Zoom calls.

As always, you can add your own twist to this trending hairstyle; add face-framing tendrils or style your box braids into pigtails. The only element that should remain the same (if you want to stay on-trend) is the positioning of the pigtails: Wear them high!

4. Purple Eyeshadow

It’s undeniable: fall 2020 is all about the eyes. And there’s one color in particular that has been sported by influencers, celebs, and supermodels alike – purple. It’s glamourous, versatile, and is in fact, more wearable than you may think. Whether you opt for a soft wash of lilac eyeshadow like Kendall Jenner or slay a plum winged liner, there are so many ways to embrace the trend in under five minutes. Check out all of our go-to purple eye makeup looks here.

To stay on-trend, we’ve been using our new Huda Beauty Haze Obsessions Eyeshadow Palette, $29, in Purple. The mini palette features nine shades, including smokey plum, dusty mauve, pink clay and hazelnut, mixed with deep berry shimmers, violet, and a burnt bronze hue. It has everything you need to create a simple pastel look or a jewel-toned smokey eye – needless to say, we’re obsessed.

5. Face-Framing Tendrils

When we said 90s hair trends will not die, we weren’t exaggerating. The last five-minute trend on our list is the 90s classic; face-framing tendrils. Whether you have coils, curls, braids, or straight locks, it’ll add a sassy vibe to any hairstyle from a high ponytail to pigtails. You can also experiment with different tendril styles – opt for a single tendril for a chic and sexy finish or braid your tendrils for the ultimate 90s lewk.

Whichever way you decide to wear the look, be sure to separate the tendrils before you style the rest of your mane for easy styling.
