For as long as we can remember, we’ve accentuated our eyes with a sexy slick of black khol. It’s our easiest makeup trick to take our look up a notch, and it wears so well from day to night. BUT… It’s 2018, and this is the year of color! The catwalks at Marni, Prada, Dior and tons more were running with bold eyeliner looks that had us heading for our nearest Sephora in a frenzy. Plus, summer is on the way, and nothing says sunshine, cocktails, and parties like a bold eye – it also makes a boujee selfie for your Insta feed. Whether you’re into bold and bright statement wings like Kat Von D, or prefer a more laid-back look that still says you’re on trend, these six ways to wear colored eyeliner are about to paint your makeup imagination…

LOWER LASH LINE: You can be subtle or go bold with this technique. Plus, you don’t actually need to invest in an eyeliner to get playful: We find that a bright eyeshadow does a great job of lining the lower lashes, and it’s less likely to move too. If you have a white eyeliner, use this to line your waterline, making the colored liner POP!

TWO-TONED: If deciding on one color is too hard, then mix them up. Using similar tones, like purple and pink or green and blue looks divine, but clashing colors make even more of a statement. Either clash your liner with eyeshadow or layer your tones on top of each other.

GO GRAPHIC: If staying in the lines has never been your rule, then now is your time to shine! We love how simple lines can create an edge that can be elegant, disco-ready, or super sexy. Play with glitter liner for a dinner date, or try lines for partying and festivals. Liquid eyeliner like Make Up For Ever’s Aqua Xl Ink Liner has a super fine nib for precise and easy application, plus it’s waterproof, so it’s perfect for summer shenanigans.

COLORFUL CAT EYE: Switch out your black cat-liner with your fav color, et voila – an update on your staple look. If you’re not brave enough yet, try navy or cobalt blue. For a blurred liner, use your black eyeliner as usual and then pack a brightly pigmented eyeshadow shade on top using a small dense brush.

INNER AND OUTER CORNERS: Add a pop of color by using colored liner on the inner or outer corners or both. We love the look of using it on the inner lower lash line and then continuing the line on the upper eyelid and extending it into a winged liner!

GO BOLD: Think smokey eye, but in color! Whether you choose to line your full lower lash line and upper lash line in rich color or you want to pop with a neon shade, bright colors are meant to be seen. We’re loving using liquid eyeshadows as thick eyeliner at the moment, especially as liquid eyeshadows tend to last and stay in place much longer than powders. Maybelline’s Color Tattoo Eye Chrome comes in 10 rich metallic shades, while Stila’s Magnificent Metals Glitter & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow has 13 gorgeous glistening shades.
