Whether you’re on #day 4 or #day 12 of quarantine life, or maybe you’ve lost count, it’s time to make the most of your new routine. While we don’t deny this is a very uncertain time in our lives, we always try to find the positive aspects of any given situation. And we’ve managed to find that social distancing has more than a few beauty benefits; we’ve been masking from noon to night, sipping on detox drinks 24/7, and catching up on our beauty sleep, and you should too. Here’s what’s fueling our positivity right now and amping up our beauty game…

1. You Have Time to Focus on Your Skincare Routine

via Giphy

With this newfound downtime, it’s the perfect opportunity to work on your glow game. With the right regime and skincare rituals, you can achieve healthier skin in a fortnight. Start by getting your beauty hygiene in check, which means washing your pillowcases, bedsheets, and makeup brushes regularly. Now that you’re definitely spending more time at home, and no doubt in bed, make sure you’re washing your sheets every week.

Next, identify your skin type and ensure you’re using the correct products that cater to your skin’s needs. Once you’ve outlined your routine, learn how to apply the products in the correct order, using the best application techniques to increase absorption. 2. You Can Go Makeup-Free

via Giphy

Whether you’re a full-beat-kinda-girl or a no-makeup makeup pro, now is the time to *actually* wear no makeup. Let your skin have some time off – you’ll be amazed at how clear your pores will get by not having makeup sat on them all day and the minimized exposure to pollution and dirt. However, this doesn’t mean you should ease up on your nighttime skin routine – just because you’re not removing makeup, doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be done properly. You still need to remove traces of dirt (you’ll most likely touch your face more often at home with no makeup on – try not to pick!) and natural oil buildup.

3. No Commute = Extra Beauty Sleep

via Giphy

One of the many advantages of working from home is the time you get back from commuting to work. Plus the fact that you don’t have to spend 15 minutes pondering what to wear or any time bothering with makeup. More sleep means better productivity (unless you stayed up watching Netflix) and your skin will benefit, as deep sleep boosts your skin’s metabolism, which means skin cell regeneration is improved. Sleep is also really great for your immune system, so take this time to get the eight hours (yes, eight hours) your body needs to recover and regenerate – sleep really is the best thing for your body.

If you want to go one step further, be sure to apply a sleeping mask to wake up with next-level, glowing skin. Check out our fave sleeping masks here.

4. You Can Wear Hair Masks Around the Clock

via Giphy

If you facetime us over the next two weeks, chances are we’ll be wearing a hair mask: we’re trading in styling for strengthening. Even if you don’t have a mask stashed in your cupboard, there are SO many easy DIYs. Our go-to hydrating hair mask is simply two tablespoons of warm coconut oil, which we massage into our scalp to boost blood flow and our ends to nourish. We then leave it on our hair as long as possible to lock in moisture before washing it off with shampoo. Another fave of ours is a rice water rinse, which is proven to encourage healthy hair growth and strengthen the hair.

5. More Time to Work Out (From Home)

via Giphy

If you take a look at our 2019 calendar, it was jam-packed with travel, date nights, work commitments, and girls’ dinners… Needless to say, it was hectic AF. Now, with every evening free (apart from scheduled facetime sessions) there’s more time to work out, and there are thousands of free at-home workouts on offer. It’s also really important to move your body, and exercise, as it’ll boost your levels of serotonin (the happy hormone) while reducing levels of stress. Whether you become a yogi, a dancer, or a HITT fanatic, here are some free at-home workouts you need to try.

6. You Can Face Mask While You Work

via Giphy

Of course, we wouldn’t show our hair some love and let our glow game suffer! So as you’d expect, we’re face-masking while we work. In fact, our product development team had a Zoom meeting while wearing sheet masks.

The key thing to consider when you’re choosing a face mask is your skin type, as this will help you find a formula that contains ingredients to address your personal skin concerns. Whether you’re looking for an anti-aging solution, a glow enhancing mask, or a mask for acne-prone skin, there’s something out there for you. Just make sure you cleanse your skin before you apply and always read the instructions! Check out our face-masking guide for more deets!

7. Time to Learn How to Do DIY Nail Art

If like us, you’ve become obsessed with nail art, now is the time to experiment! TBH, we’ll do anything to transform our nails – they currently look like something from a horror movie. Here are some quick hacks you can try at home:

For easy patterns: The easiest way to achieve DIY nail art is by using a ball-point pen and varnish. First coat your nail with a nude polish, then work on top creating patterns with varnish using your pen. We’ve tried tons of cute shapes and scribbles from polka dots, swirls, and geometric shapes, as seen in the image above. Let the ink dry, then finish with a top coat et voila!

For spirals: To create a painterly pattern, first, paint a base coat and let it dry. Next using a contrasting color, place a small amount of polish on your nail and swirl it around using a toothpick. Once that’s dry, finish with a top coat before taking your #nailfie!

8. You Have Detox Drinks on Tap

One of the advantages of staying home is having access to your kitchen 24/7. While this means constant temptation to snack, it’s also a great opportunity to make some detox drinks to cleanse your digestive system, as well as provide a surge of vitamins and minerals. One of our go-to detox drinks is water infused with lemon, mint, and cucumber. Lemon water will help stimulate your lymphatic system, which is responsible for removing toxins from your lymph glands, bladder, and colon.

We’re also sipping on beautifying herbal teas like the Sahara Teas aka HB HQ’s tea obsession! They’re made from a combination of healthy herbs, roots, and spices that help rejuvenate your body, mind, and skin, which is what everyone needs right now. Read our full review here.

9. Lunchtime Meditation

Staying calm, happy, and healthy is our number one goal right now, so keep your mind at ease with some midday meditation. Not only does meditation help you feel less stressed and reduce levels of anxiety, but it’ll also help boost blood circulation, thereby promoting happier, healthier skin. If you’re wondering where to start, download some free meditation apps like HeadSpace; it’s perfect for beginners as you can create a wellness plan for your individual needs. For more amazing apps, read our guide to how meditation can help your skin.

10. You Can Brighten Your Smile While You Work

via Giphy

Self-isolation is the perfect opportunity to brighten your smile using tooth whitening strips. While we’ve definitely considered wearing them at work, our vanity got the better of us, but now is the perfect time. We love the Crest Teeth Whitening Strips, $35, as they help remove old stains, plus the results can last up to 12 months. They’re also affordable and easy to use,  they mold to the shape of your teeth, and they use an enamel-safe whitening agent.
