All boobs are special and deserve to be treated that way! That means you need to pay your boobs special attention and check them regularly, and not just because it’s Breast Cancer Awareness month, but because familiarizing yourself with how your boobs look and feel could save your life! Remember, your breasts are fragile, and the most important thing you can do is get to know them and take care of them.

In the UK and US, 1 in 8 women are affected by breast cancer, and it’s the most commonly diagnosed form of cancer in women under 40. What causes breast cancer is still not entirely known, according to Cancer.org “Changes or mutations in DNA can cause normal breast cells to become cancer,” but only 10% of breast cancers are caused by family history. However, if breast cancer is found in the early stages, the higher the rate of successfully treating it becomes: The five-year survival rate of early-stage breast cancer is 80-90%, falling to just 24% for diagnosis at a later stage. This means it really is so important to check your breasts regularly and familiarize yourself with them so that you’re able to spot any changes.

How to check your boobs:

We love the Coppafeel charity, which helps to educate and remind young people to check their boobs. Check out their chart below for direction and head over to the CoppaFeel page here, for more details on each step.

Remember, if you do find something different, don’t expect the worst, but do make an appointment with your doctor as soon as possible. There are lots of reasons why your breasts might change, so having a professional take a look is key. Go to the CoppaFeel site for more details on how to check your boobs and to find out more. You can even get a boob-check reminder.

5 ways you can get involved and help to raise awareness for Breast Cancer Awareness month:

1. Do a Walk:

Unite, ignite, fight! You can help to raise awareness and funds to save lives from breast cancer by doing an organized charity walk. In the US, you can join with The American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, who organize non-competetive three to five mile walks to bring people together to “raise money to fund innovative research, provide free information and support, and to help people reduce their breast cancer risk or find it early when it’s most treatable.” If you’re based in the UK, check out Breast Cancer Care and you can take part in a Pink Ribbon Charity Walk to raise awareness.

2. Go Shopping:

Get your fix and do good at the same time! There are tons of amazing companies offering to donate money, proceeds, and products to help raise awareness and money for tons of breast cancer charities – all you have to do is go shopping! From Becca Cosmetics highlighters and Bobbi Brown lipsticks to hair dryers, sheet masks and makeup brushes – now is the time to get your beauty fix and not feel guilty about it!
