Kim K’s Hairstylist Spills His Fave Trends For Zoom (That Are SO Easy)

No one knows a good hair day like celebrity hairstylist Chris Appleton, who works with the likes of J.Lo, Kim Kardashian, and Dua Lipa. We recently got the chance to quiz him on his fave hair trends to slay on Zoom. From the top knot to his signature undone mermaid waves, here are five easy-to-achieve styles that’ll get you Zoom-ready in no time.

1. Snatch Your Top Knot

If you’re debating between a messy bun or a snatched top knot, Chris says, “It’s always nice to have your top knot clean and snatched.”  To get the look, he recommends using the Color Wow Pop N Lock Frizz-Control Glossing Serum, $20, to “dress through the root for a nice clean finish.”

2. Opt For Undone Waves

“If you have long hair, section your hair into a middle parting and braid two low braids on each side, ensuring you keep your roots flat. Then, go to sleep with them braided or go over dry hair with a flat iron to create the perfect undone, on-trend waves.” With this style, Chris insists, “It’s important to keep the roots flat so there’s not too much volume but there’s still that beautiful undone texture on the ends.”

To elevate this style, add a high gloss finish. Celeb hairstylist Dom Seeley recommends using Color Wow Extra MIST-ical Shine Spray, $20, as it’s quick and easy to use yet still delivers a high level of shine. He explains, “I love this product as it’s super lightweight, it’s instant, non-greasy, and has an incredibly realistic shine. It also contains heat protectant and melts into hair when used with flat or curling irons

3. Cut Curtain bangs

“Curtain bangs work with your hair whether you style it up or down as they frame the face,” says Chris. He recommends using the ColorWow Raise The Root Thicken & Lift Spray, $24, on dry hair in the front, then blow-drying your bangs with a large round brush to frame your face.

4. Add Accessories

“Accessories are a great way of adding detail to your hair and making your hairstyle more interesting, especially for Zoom meetings,” says Chris. We’re currently obsessed with claw clips like the Kitsch Open Shape Claw Clip, $9, which we stash on our (WFH) desk – it’s great for pulling your hair out of your face, without damaging your strands with hair ties. You can also never go wrong with a scrunchie… Case in point: Adut Akech Bior in this cute red scrunchie.

5. Try Heated Rollers

Chris suggests, “Instead of blow-drying your hair, use heated or velcro rollers.” He adds, “It’s a great way of getting volume and that 90s bounce without too much styling.” Check out his easy-to-follow tutorial above.

To prep your hair and minimize damage, Dom Seeley suggests using the Color Wow Dream Cocktail Coconut-Infused, $25, as it’ll simultaneously hydrate and strengthen your locks. He also adds, “It’s instantly absorbed and doesn’t leave any residue or feel heavy – it’s the best prep for your blow-dry. They’re actually classed as supplements for your hair so it’s like a vitamin dose for both inside and outside the hair follicle.”
