We Tried The Makeup Collection Behind Meghan Markle’s Flawless Wedding Skin
Since legendary makeup artist Peter Philips took over at Christian Dior makeup, we’ve seen some pretty legendary makeup looks and products emerge. Last month, Dior’s latest makeup line ‘Dior Backstage’ emerged, along with the news that Megan Markle’s stunning skin was the result of their new Dior Backstage foundation. That certainly got our attention!
I’ve always been a huge fan of the brand, so when I met Peter Philips and face of the brand, Bella Hadid, last year to discuss all things beauty, I was excited to see what they would do! Peter Philips explained that although this was a professional line, all the products are designed to be easy to use and wear. I tried out their new palettes, here’s what I thought:
Dior Backstage, Backstage Glow Palette, $40:
This is a really beautiful highlighter palette. The shades are stunning, and there’s an option for all skin tones. The formula isn’t overwhelming, it applies an intense shimmer, and if you really want to sparkle it builds easily for a reflective glow.
Tip: If you have larger pores, prep with a silicone primer first; or only highlight the tops of your cheekbones, where there are fewer pores.
Dior Backstage, Backstage Eye Palette, $45:
The whole point of this collection is they should be no-brainers to use, which they are, but I can’t say I’m a huge fan of the shade collections: 001 Warm Neutral (browns) and 002 Cool Neutrals (mauves). The shade selection seems a little bit too mature for me, and I feel like I would only really use a few shades from each, however, if you’re looking for a basic everyday palette, this is something you may love about it! Both palettes have a combination of matte and shimmers, and I love that they included a primer – although I’m not mad about the formula. If you like very subtle, neutral makeup, these are probably perfect for you.
Dior Backstage, Backstage Contour Palette, $40:
I’m honestly SO impressed with this palette, the shades are so beautiful and blend really well, but you can also build them for intensity. The paler contour shades work amazingly for contouring the nose, while the deeper shades are ideal for contouring the forehead and cheekbones for a natural finish. The lightest shade also works really nicely to highlight. I only wish there was another deeper shade collection, as I’m not sure this will work for the richest skin tones. I love that it’s such a convenient size for traveling, but I know they left the packaging clear so that it’s easy to see what you’re grabbing!
Dior Backstage, Backstage Lip Palette, $45:
At first, I thought this was an eyeshadow palette, but it’s actually a lip palette containing matte, gloss, and satin finishes. These are designed to be layered and built to achieve a natural or sexy lip, whichever you prefer. I wish they had different colors in the matte formula (the bottom line) as they’re a little bit deeper than I prefer for an everyday lip – I’m looking forward to seeing other shade selections. I also wish this included an applicator as I don’t like to use my fingers to apply lip color.
My must-haves: The Backstage Contour and Backstage Glow Palettes are a must for me, but I won’t be reaching for the eyeshadows or the lip palettes.
