If you had told us a year ago that we’d be matching our manicure to our protective face mask, we would’ve been seriously confused. Fast forward to July 2020, and we have an array of cute masks lined up by the door for whenever we leave the house.
The latest nail trend coincides – or should we say, coordinates – with our new accessory, and we’ll be honest, we’re really feeling it! Tons of our fave celeb nail artists are matching their nail art to their protective face masks. From cherry detailing to polka dots, there are so many ways to embrace the trend. Here are our top tips (no pun intended) for nailing the look.

Editorial nail artist @misspopnails ignited the trend when she posted this epic leopard print #nailfie. However, she later revealed to Refinery29 that it wasn’t intentional. “After I posted that Instagram, [above] I received an outpouring of positive responses – so many DMs and comments,” said Miss Pop. Continuing to explain, “It’s funny because, for the nail art, I just riffed – the design doesn’t have to be too matchy-matchy. I just feel so inspired by all my neighbors here in New York who are wearing masks everywhere, and doing it so fashionably.” Take note from Miss Pop and get creative with your designs – play with negative space and geometric shapes. And remember, every nail doesn’t need to be the same!
