What Are Oats?

We all know oats are a superfood, but did you know that they’re super for your skin too? Whether in a best-selling formula or DIY mask, this unassuming ingredient has some seriously impressive skincare benefits.

What Can Oats Do?

Oats tackle a trio of skin snags. First, they’re exceptionally moisturizing. Both an emollient (which traps moisture from leaving) and a humectant (which attracts water), it’s the double whammy of hydration.

Secondly, thanks to the saponins they contain, oats have cleansing properties by gently absorbing and removing dirt and excess sebum, without stripping your skin’s natural oils. In turn, they help keep acne at arm’s length. Lastly, they’re an A* anti-inflammatory, antibiotic and antioxidant – so they’re super soothing, and can actually help skin heal. Plus, they neutralize the pH of itchy skin, so if you’ve got sunburn, sores or rashes, this oat-standing ingredient will come to the rescue.

Who Should Use Oats

Soothing superstars, oats are particularly beneficial for those with dry, sensitive and irritated skin. Luckily, they very rarely cause an allergic reaction.

How to Use Oats in Your Routine

Now, before you go sticking your face into your breakfast bowl, there are plenty of other ways to get that oat fix. Luckily, this purse-friendly ingredient is in everything from shampoos and body scrubs to cleansers and lotions. But, personally, we love slathering on oat-based DIY facemasks.
