Patrick Ta is a makeup legend (and total sweetheart), he’s the man that paints some of the most beautiful faces of the Hollywood elite, and his looks always elevate the natural beauty of his subject. Naturally, when he launched his first makeup collection earlier this year, we couldn’t wait to get our hands on it.

After launching his makeup line with a shimmering collection of lip glosses, body oils and highlighters, his new collection, Monochrome Moment, is his offering of everyday basics for an elevated no-makeup makeup look. Makeup that he says is designed to make people feel effortlessly beautiful. The collection includes four Lip Crèmes, four Velvet Blushes, and four Precision Lip Crayons in a range of bronzey nudes, pinks, and corals designed to create four monochromatic looks. So, you can opt to mix and match your shades or wear the matching shades for each look to have your perfect monochrome moment.

We tried everything…

Monochrome Moment Precision Lip Crayons, $26

Patrick ta lip liner

What it is: A creamy lip liner with a click mechanism that reveals more liner.

The shades: (Pictured above from top to bottom) She’s Proud is a peachy beige, She’s Humble is a subtle rosy pink, She’s Strong is a cool brown, and She’s Bold is a rich chocolate brown. We love these different nude shades, and although all four shades work well for fair to medium skin tones, the paler shades, She’s Strong and She’s Bold didn’t suit deep to rich skin tones as well.

What we thought: These lip liners are really unique! The shape of the liner is much larger than a standard lip liner, which initially made us think it would hinder precision, however, these angled liners worked really well for lining the lip, and if anything, we found the shape made it easier. The formula feels really creamy and glides onto the lips, then sets in place and stays in place all day! The click mechanism is really clever and works really well, just be careful placing the lid on so you don’t catch the liner.

Monochrome Moment Silky Lip Crème, $24

What it is: A soft, creamy liquid lipstick with a subtle sheen and hyaluronic filling spheres to hydrate and plump the lips.

The shades: She’s Secure is a pale peach, She’s Independent is a cool mauve-brown, She’s Unapologetic is a muted pink, She’s Confident is rich terracotta-brown. The shades are very wearable, and they’re definitely colors that will make you feel sexy. All the shades look gorgeous on a variety of skin tones, although She’s Unapologetic does look very bright on medium to rich skin tones.

What we thought: A hybrid formula between a lipstick and a cream, these lip creams have some serious staying power! The pointed applicator makes it super easy to shape the lip while the intense formula is super pigmented and glides on a smooth, even layer of color in one swipe. The formula is wet and doesn’t set, so it does transfer, but even so, the color lasts a good few hours without the need to reapply and has a subtle staining effect. It’s not a super lightweight formula but is comfortable to wear and feels hydrating on the lips. We also love the minty, almond scent (it kinda smells like Tic Tacs – love!) and it gives a very slight tingle when first applied.

Monochrome Moment Velvet Blush, $32

What it is: A buttery soft blush designed to give a second-skin finish.

The shades: She’s Passionate, a coral-pink, She’s Adorable, a rosy color with a subtle gold sheen, She’s Sincere, a muted bronzey-pink, She’s Seductive, a warm red-brown. All shades work perfectly on fair to medium skin tones, but for rich skin tones, while She’s Passionate gives a stunning flush and She’s Adorable has a beautiful sheen effect, She’s Seductive and She’s Sincere, didn’t suit as well.

What we thought: When we first saw the blush collection we were really intrigued as it’s definitely a different selection of colors than we’re used to seeing. The collection is meant to give a natural finish, and the muted bronzey shades are fitting for the collection, giving a very natural, ‘Patrick Ta’ finish.

What’s important to note about these blushes is that they’re not super pigmented (with the exception of She’s Passionate, which is more pigmented), however, when it comes to blush this is actually our preference, as it’s so easy to go overboard with blush. These blushes are very buildable, which means getting a very subtle-rosy glow is more easily achievable. The formula feels really velvety and blends into the skin perfectly, giving a soft glow that looks so natural and pretty. It’s the ultimate no-makeup makeup blush, which can sometimes be difficult to achieve.

The collection also comes with three brushes. The Cheek Brush was the perfect tool for dabbing the blush onto the apples of the cheeks and drawing it up onto the cheekbone. The Eye Brush is designed to be used with the blush to add the blush into the crease of your lid to bring the whole look together, and it really is the perfect fluffy brush for getting a very sexy wash of color in the crease. The Lip Brush is also a really nice flat, stiff brush that allows you to easily blend the lip products. Shop the full Monochrome Moment Collection here.

If you want to choose your monochrome moment, the four matching sets are:

Blush in She’s Passionate, Lip Liner in She’s Bold, and Lip Crème in She’s Independent.
Blush in She’s Adorable, Lip Liner in She’s Proud and Lip Crème in She’s Secure.
Blush in She’s Passionate, Lip Liner in She’s Bold and Lip Crème in She’s Independent.
Blush in She’s Sincere, Lip Liner in She’s Humble and Lip Crème in She’s Unapologetic.

The verdict: If you love the looks that Patrick Ta creates – a glowy goddess look – then you will probably love how these products pay off. We’re big fans of the lip liner formula and are really impressed with the unique shape. The Lip Crèmes wear really well and add a sexy finish to a subtle look, and the blushes are great for nailing the glowy, flushed look that Patrick Ta is renowned for.
