WFH has meant our hair and makeup game has taken center stage, even if it is super minimal, as honestly, that’s all our colleagues can see! As a result, we’re always on the lookout for new quick and easy hair trends. The hairstyle that everyone’s been obsessing over this week is the classic 90s ‘single tendril’. The inspiration behind its resurgence? Beauty chameleon Cardi B and Savage star Megan Thee Stallion modeled the look in their latest music video WAP, which is a real treasure trove of beauty moments.

Keep it simple and chic with a sleek low bun accented with a single, face-framing tendril. Take note from Cardi, Megan, and Madelaine and opt for a side parting.

Top tip: Whenever you’re creating a tendril hairstyle, comb the hair, then part it using a thin brush like the Ionic Anti-Static Rat Tail Comb, $3. It’ll allow you to create a neat parting for a polished final look. Try adding a curl if you’re not vibing a straight tendril.

If you’re currently slaying braids, this 90s trend is SO easy to create! Simply leave a single face-framing braid loose, and pull the rest of your braids into a topknot.

Top tip: For the perfect snatched topknot, gather your braids following the angle of your cheekbone – this will help enhance the natural contours of your face. For the ultimate finishing, lay your edges with a long-hold gel, like the Murray’s Premium Edgewax Gel, $4.

Top tip: Before you work the topknot, separate the tendril – it’s SO much easier than trying to pull out a section of your hair once the topknot is in place. So, start with the center parting and section a piece of hair that’s roughly two or three fingers in width. Clip this section and set it to one side, then create the topknot. To add to that undone feel, flip the tendril in the opposite direction à la Dua Lipa.

Regardless of your hair length, you can find a way to work a tendril. The easiest way is to curl it as this will instantly shorten the length. Don’t be afraid to experiment with the size of the tendril, thin tendrils give the look a 90s vibe, while larger sections add a grown-up feel.
