The Beauty Trends You Need To Get To Know For 2019
The start of a new year means the start of a new you (and probably some half-baked resolutions), but if there are any you should actually keep, it’s the beauty ones. Vow to wash your makeup brushes more! Promise to replace old jars of moisturizer you’ve been using for way too long! Commit to trying one new trend this year and give your signature style a rest. Okay, this last one is easier said than done and totally a personal preference, but if you are semi-curious about how you would look with a different ‘do or in colors from that side of the makeup palette you never touch, now’s the time to experiment. And we called in the top guns to help guide the way.
MAKEUP TRENDS TO TRY:
90s Inspired Lips
Even if you’re a die-hard red, pink, or nude girl, you may want to make some room in your lip drawer for another shade that’s making a comeback. According to editorial and celebrity makeup artist Maddie North, “the ‘90s saw a lot of brown liner (sometimes worn just on its own), but modern browns have a nice warm undertone, so they’re easier to wear and won’t look dated.”
Bold Eyes With Natural Skin
Chanel Temple, global makeup artist for Hourglass Cosmetics, is constantly playing with fresh out the (beauty) kitchen products and testing looks, but for 2019 she’s all about bold eyes with clean skin. “Think pops of color, glitter, metallics, and color-blocking, but keep your skin minimalistic so that it actually looks like skin,” she advises.
Futuristic Liner
“Not since the sixties has there been this much creative freedom on the eyes and you can expect to see a lot of liner versatility this year,” says celebrity MUA Mary Irwin, who works with more models than we can count. “From a classic cat eye to geometric shapes, there are a thousand ways to use liner in every possible color.”
Color-Changing Lipstick
Still rocking that same lipstick from 2018? Time to switch things up. “2019 will be all about personalized lips and pH adjusting lip color that uses your natural body temperature to give your pout its own unique shade,” explains Rob Robillard, Vice President of Integrated Beauty Merchandising for Qurate Retail Group. “It’s like a mood ring, but for your lips.” No wonder brands like Givenchy, Lipstick Queen, and IT Cosmetics have been selling out it.

Blushed Cheeks
We’re loving rosy cheeks and a hint of blush on the nose for a sexy, flushed look. Pinks and corals add a feminine and natural looking flush. For an extra natural finish, try using a cream formula – we love to use the Huda Beauty Liquid Mattes on our cheeks – and we’re also loving Lancome’s new Cushion Blush Subtil, the Sisley Phyto-Blush in shade Passion, and Benefit’s iconic Benetint formula.
Glossy, Glowy, ‘Yoga Skin’
There’s nothing we love more than a healthy, radiant, ‘I shine from within’ glow, and makeup artist Sara Hill has given us a little helping hand with her application tips for creating ‘Yoga Skin.’ The technique of achieving ‘yoga skin’ consists of combining foundation, face oil, strobe cream, and highlighter drops for super glowy, ‘I’ve just done 5 hours of down-dog’ skin. It’s the no makeup-makeup refresh for 2019.

Face Framing Hair Pins
90s hair trends are going to make a huge come back this year according to celebrity hairstylist Justine Marjan; “I love the 90’s for their messy, piecey, and playful twists on the updo!” And the easiest way to rock a 90s vibe is by adding in some retro hair clips. “I recently launched my first collection of hair accessories with Kit.sch that includes these classic crystal oversized hairpins. Blunt Bobs & Lobs
“After the lob craze a few years ago, the pendulum is swinging back and everyone is taking out their extensions and chopping their hair to just at, or above the shoulders,” says celebrity stylist Andrew Fitzsimons, who works with the all of the Kardashian-Jenners, Shay Mitchell, and Ashley Graham. Fitzimons is also quick to point out that the best thing about these blunt cuts is they can be worn super sleek for a modern Pulp Fiction vibe, or tousled for a more casual – but still glam – look.
