If you want to update your makeup look, you need to get on the color-blocking hype – it’s bold, it’s fierce, and it’s edgy AF. If you’re slightly confused by the rules of this makeup trend, then don’t be, because there aren’t really any rules. Color-blocking is simple: wash the lid with one shade of shadow – the bolder the better – or play around with liner, and shape.

Choosing color: Don’t feel confined by trends, go with what you have or whatever you’re feeling that day. If you want to be ahead of the game, for summer, pastels and candy-colored shades are big.

Choosing shape: To keep it quick and easy, apply one block of color to your lid. You can also experiment with a thick wing, or if you’re feeling more daring, go for a rectangular block of color.

Top tip: If you decide to stick with one color, don’t forget to outline and smudge the lower lash line – it brings the entire look together. To keep the lines super sleek, use tape to help you block out the shape. We use the Line and Define Tape, $2, by e.l.f.

Creating your look: Let your eyeshadow take center stage with this look and keep your skin more natural (resist the urge to go full contour!). We love a bold, natural brow and soft dewy skin with a nude lip.

This look is so dope and it highlights one of the essential rules of color-blocking – let the colorful hue take center stage by keeping the other colors muted.

Mixing it up: If we’re feeling extra, we like to play around with multiple colors like Meghan Markle in that fire purple and red ensemble.

This look is solid proof that makeup is an art. The precision, the colors – we love everything about it.

If anyone could make neon green liner look good, it’s Kendall Jenner. But we love how these three carefully placed lines make such an impact!

We’re drooling over this lip and lid combo – the burnt orange and the electric blue shouldn’t go together but it totally works.

This is our kind of color-blocking – it’s super simple but really standout. We love how Linda has created depth in the crease and outer corners to make this more dramatic.

Although this look may look kinda hard to recreate, it can actually be achieved pretty easily. All you need is a densely packed flat brush like the Morphe M432 Flat Liner Definer, $5, and a bold palette, like Manny MUA’s Lunar Beauty Life’s A Drag palette, $45.

This gothic glam is giving us all the feels. But we’ll be honest, this takes next level makeup skills!
