We don’t know about you, but we’re BIG fans of the Benefit brow products. Their Precisely, My Brow Eyebrow Pencil, $24, is one of our all-time fave brow pencils, and we also love the ka-BROW! Cream-Gel Eyebrow Pomade, $24, and the Gimme Brow+ Volumizing Eyebrow Gel, $24. Naturally, when they dropped a new brow product we were excited, especially when we found out it was like no other brow product we’d tried before.

The new Benefit Brow Styler Eyebrow Pencil & Powder Duo, $34, is the first tool that combines a dip-in powder formula with a pencil, which is pretty cool. We tried it out to see if it worked as well as we hoped it would…

What it is: A. 2-in-1 wax pencil and brow powder. The wax pencil is a similar shape to the Goof Proof Brow Pencil, so it’s quite a chunky pencil, and it’s also waterproof to provide 18-hour wear. The powder formula comes in a small pot, with an angled tip that picks up the powder and distributes it into the brow hairs.

What it does: The Brow Styler is designed to help you achieve multiple looks: ‘Soft & Full’ brows by using just the powder to fill in the brows, ‘Clean & Shaped’ brows by using the pencil to define the brows with hair-like strokes, and for a ‘Bold & Defined’ look, adding powder on top of the pencil for super bold brows.

What we liked: We absolutely loved the idea of this, as we’re big fans of using powders for a softer look and for filling in sparse areas. We liked using the powder for filling in our brows and it did give a really nice finish, but we wish the applicator was a little more precise to make shaping the tail end of the brow easier. If you have bushy brows, this will probably work well for you, but if you have thinner brows, make sure you go slow and build it up slowly, as the felt-tipped applicator deposits a lot of pigment.

What we didn’t like: We found it difficult to get precision with both the powder or the wax pencil, as the pencil isn’t quite fine enough to be able to draw hair-like strokes, and the powder applicator is also quite chunky.

We also noticed that although it came in eight shades, the fairest shade (1) was a lot fairer than the next (2), so there’s space for another one or two shades at the fair end. However, shade 1 – Cool Light Blonde, works great for blondes, but if you have medium brown hair, shade 2 – Warm Golden Blonde will probably be fine as it’s quite a lot deeper than shade 1. For brunettes with light to medium skin tones, shade 3.75 to 4.5 in the Precisely My Brow is often a perfect fit, but in the Brow Styler, we recommend shade 3. For rich skin tones, we recommend shades 4 to 6, depending on how deep you like your brows.

Verdict: The powder is really cool and unique, and perfect for bushy brows or no-makeup makeup days. If you love a super defined brow, combining the pencil and powder will give you a full look. If you like a more natural-looking brow, then we still prefer the Precisely My Brow pencil for achieving this look.
