Considering celebs have access to the world’s best dermatologists plus the $$$ to splurge on whatever treatment is deemed necessary, we love hearing about their skincare rituals. Especially, when it comes to a skincare issue as common as acne. We’ll be real with you guys; when it comes to treating acne it can be kinda frustrating as there are SO many different factors that come into play, from hormones and stress to inflammatory foods and sometimes just because. However, there are also tons of treatments to soothe and calm acne-prone skin, and different things work for different people. So, we tapped five celeb-approved methods to show you guys some treatment options you might not have thought about before.

1. Kendall Jenner

According to Kendall’s dermatologist Dr. Kidd, Kendall takes her skincare regime very seriously. But it wasn’t just a consistent regime that helped – Kendall, credits laser genesis for soothing her acne-prone skin. The non-invasive laser treatment addresses fine lines, large pores, uneven skin tone, and of course acne, and acne scars. The laser works by heating the upper layer of the skin (the papillary dermis) increasing skin cell production, which will help heal any existing pimples, as well as lessen the appearance of acne scars.

Kendall is also a spokeswoman for Proactiv, who revealed that Kendall Jenner uses the ProactivMD line of products that contain a retinoid formulated to fight acne. For more deets on how retinol can help acne, read this.

2. Bella Thorne

Bella Thorne recently revealed that the secret behind her soothed skin wasn’t a fancy product or $300 dollar treatment, but one of the most basic skincare solutions: she stopped (over) washing her face. Instead of washing her face twice a day, she began only washing it at night and noticed an immediate improvement. While washing twice a day works fine for many people, over washing your face can be seriously detrimental, as Bella experienced.

By using cleansers that are too harsh (or maybe it’s just your skin), you can upset the skin’s water lipid-protein balance, weakening the defensive layer of your skin, which means bacteria is more easily able to penetrate, thereby increasing the likelihood of a breakout. You could also be stripping your skin of its natural oils, and potentially dehydrating your skin. As a result, your skin will try to compensate for the lack of moisture and produce even more oil, upping your risk of blocked pores that can lead to breakouts.

3. Emma Stone

Emma Stone has always been open about her struggle with acne and we love her for it. She told Refinery 29 that her journey started with an Accutane prescription (a capsule form of Vitamin A) when she was 17. However, after just two months Emma stopped taking the medicine as it was drying out her skin. Now, when a breakout hits, she visits the derm’s office for a cortisone shot: “Whenever it’s been really bad, I’ve gone to the dermatologist to get those cortisone shots. They’re amazing. They’re kind of a miracle. But also kind of terrifying because this huge needle is coming at your face.”

Cortisone shots are basically a diluted corticosteroid that is injected into your pimple, cyst or nodule, by a derm. Within a few hours, your pimple will have pretty much peaced out, however, cortisone shots aren’t really a long-term solution for acne, more of a last resort if you have a cyst that’s painful or just won’t quit, or maybe your wedding the next day! Cortisone shots aren’t cheap either and typically range between $25 to $100.

Olivia Munn has also been open about using cortisone shots to combat acne and even told E! that she knows a lot of celebs with acne who use this method of treatment.

4. Cameron Diaz

In her book The Body Book: The Law of Hunger, the Science of Strength, and Other Ways to Love Your Amazing Body, $13, Cameron said that she once had “terrible, terrible, skin” which she tried to treat with “the harshest prescriptions.” However, the only thing that helped prevent and soothe her breakouts was a better, cleaner diet. Cameron ditched fast food and noticed an improvement in her skin; “My acne wasn’t totally gone, but it was significantly better.”

Natalie Portman also thanks a healthier diet for happier skin, revealing it wasn’t until she went vegan and cut out dairy that her skin cleared up. So although going vegan isn’t totally necessary, it’s 100% true that your diet majorly impacts your skin. Make sure you avoid these breakout-inducing foods and replace them with these skin-loving ingredients instead.

Katy Perry said that despite the fact that she’s no longer a brand ambassador to Proactiv, she still uses their products daily. She told Refinery 29 “Proactiv doesn’t pay me anymore – I have no relationship with them besides the fact that they’ve helped me so much,” she said. “When I was 23, I had really bad skin, I had spent thousands and thousands of dollars on dermatologists and lasers, and then I started using Proactiv and I still use it to this day. I don’t use the trio, just the Skin Smoothing Exfoliator – Step 1, $48, and the Revitalizing Toner, $25.” Katy isn’t the only celeb who credits Proactiv; Kendall Jenner, the current brand ambassador, as well as Bella Thorne and Justin Bieber, also rave about their products.
