While we understand the skepticism surrounding facial mists, they’re super beneficial for your skin. Most importantly they’ll hydrate your skin and help it retain moisture. Hydrated skin equals glowing skin – it’s able to reflect light a whole lot better when it’s plump instead of dry. By providing your skin with a much-needed surge of moisture you’ll also strengthen your skin’s protective barrier, which will help your skin maintain its natural collagen levels.

Plus, most mists contain natural botanicals, which are bursting with antioxidants and beauty-boosting vitamins to up that glow game. Your facial mist can even address different beauty concerns; from mattifying oily skin to soothing dry skin. We created three DIYs so that you can find one that’s suited to your skin type:

DIY facial mist for oily skin

This DIY is perfect for oily skin as it’s crazy hydrating – if your skin’s dehydrated it’ll produce more oil to compensate for the lack of moisture. The witch hazel will also help control oil production, while the star ingredient, green tea, contains ECGC, which is one of the most potent antioxidants around!

Ingredients:
1/2 cup of witch hazel
1/2 cup of rosewater
1 cup green tea

Start by placing a green tea bag in a cup of boiling water and leave it to brew until it’s cool. Then, using a funnel, pour the tea into a glass spritz bottle, add the remaining ingredients and shake well. We like to keep our mist in the fridge to keep it cold for an uber-refreshing wakeup call!

DIY facial mist for dry skin

This quick and easy DIY will provide your thirsty skin with the hydration it needs. The chamomile will help calm and rebalance the skin while rosewater’s packed with antioxidants to brighten the skin and fight free radicals that cause premature aging. Glycerin is THE ultimate hydrator!

Ingredients
1/2 cup of glycerin
1/2 cup of rosewater
1 cup of chamomile

Start by placing a chamomile tea bag in a cup of boiling water and leave it to brew until it’s cool. Then, using a funnel, pour the tea into a glass spritz bottle, add the remaining ingredients and shake well.

DIY facial mist for normal skin

Coconut water is one of the most amazing DIY ingredients as it contains cytokinins, which will encourage cell turnover. The sweet almond oil is a rich source of vitamin A and E, which will help balance uneven tone and replenish the skin, while aloe vera will hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!

Ingredients
1 cup of  coconut water
1 cup aloe vera water
2 drops of sweet almond oil

Using a funnel, pour the ingredients into a glass spray bottle. Shake well, and spritz!

How to spritz like a supermodel

All you need to do is spray two to three pumps approx. 50cm away from your face at an upward angle and then let the mist fall to your face. This will help you achieve a more even application and will ensure that it doesn’t alter your makeup.
