As beauty editors, scrolling through Instagram is half pleasure, half work – our eyes are constantly on the lookout for new beauty treatments, makeup products, and new trends. And, ever since 2020 rolled in, one color really caught our attention… We’ve seen a huge influx of orange makeup looks featuring sultry sunset eyeshadows, eyepopping tangerine lipsticks, and warm coral blushes. Major celebs like RiRi, Lizzo, and Chrissy Teigen have all been repping the tangy color, and it’s made us hella excited to start wearing it too, especially with spring on the horizon. However, if the thought of wearing orange is kinda intimidating, don’t worry, we’ve got seven easy ways to work the orange makeup trend…

1. Try an Orange Eyeshadow

The easiest way to incorporate orange into your makeup look is by creating a soft eyeshadow look. Keep it matte for a luxe feel, or to brighten the look, add a pop of shimmer to the center or inner corner of your lid. The tangy hue also works well when it’s blended upwards towards the brow bone. To ensure the color remains vibrant, you may need to apply a white base using a fair-toned concealer or a light liquid shadow. We use Faux Fur and Bamboo Hoops, $25, from our Huda Beauty Matte and Metal Melted Shadows range.

2. Blend Gold-Toned Hues

This orange-toned glow up is straight fire. For an easy introduction into the color palette, blend together golden, bronze, and copper tones. The color families complement each other allowing you to create a harmonious, cohesive look. To achieve this bronzed orange vibe, get creative and use your highlighter palette to accent your eyes or use the shimmers from an orange-toned eyeshadow palette as a highlighter.

3. Keep it Monochromatic

Monochromatic makeup is a HUGE trend right now, so max out on the hype and create an orange monochrome look. Monochromatic makeup is created by using the same color theme for your entire look, including your eyes, cheeks, and lips. For instance, if you’re wearing a burnt orange lip, use this color theme to accent your eyes and cheeks – team it with a warm orange eyeshadow and copper bronzer like Chrissy Teigen did at the Grammys.

4. Add a Neon Flare

Okay, we have to admit, this is a throwback makeup look but it’s so good we had to include it. If you’re feeling daring, mix up your orange vibe with a neon flare. MUA Mary Phillips created this look using the Danessa Myricks Beauty Waterproof Cushion Liner, $12. The super pigmented, waterproof formula is easily blendable, meaning you can apply a wet wash of color like Kendall or use with a flat angled brush to create a fierce neon cat-eye.

5. Wear a Warm, Orange Blush

Blush is making a comeback this year, and beyond the classic rosy shades (although we love those too), we’re vibing a warm copper blush. It’s modern, contemporary, and leaves you with a bronzed glow. When applying an orange-toned blush, begin by dusting the apples of your cheeks, then sweep your brush along your contour for a sculpted glow. For more blush tips, read our ultimate blush guide.

6. Slay a Burnt Orange Eye

Regardless of what RiRi wears, it becomes a trend – fact! To open her Fenty store in NYC, our ultimate girl crush sported a sexy sweater dress with orange eyeshadow to match. For a nighttime feel, smoke the eye with soft black liner and blend in a deep copper shade. True to form, she’s kept it monochromatic with her lip and blush choice.

7. Work a Tangy Lip

When choosing an orange lipstick, you can play it safe with a burnt nude or work a brighter shade as pictured above. This looks particularly stunning on deeper skin tones, and we say the brighter the orange, the better! But regardless of the hue, whenever you’re looking for a lipstick, always consider the undertone. If you have cool undertones, look for a lipstick with a blue or white base, if you have warm undertones, look for a shade with golden, yellow undertones. For more tips on finding the perfect lipstick shade, read our lipstick guide.
