Worth Every Dollar: 10 Skin Saviors That Work Magic

product review

There are some things worth investing in, and your skin is definitely one of them! Not only do you live in it, but it’s your body’s biggest organ – so looking after it is not only worthwhile but really important for your health. That doesn’t mean you need to spend a fortune on your skin though; we love our drugstore goodies – and honestly, some of them are just as good as the expensive versions – but sometimes, splashing out really is worth it and can make all the difference.

These are the beauty tools and skincare products that really are worth the extra dollars:

The Skin Soother: Anne Semonin Soothing Intensive Complex, $105

Anne Semonin Soothing Intensive ComplexSource: Anne Semonin

Anne Semonin products are our newest obsession, offering a holistic take on skincare that really works. This nighttime formula is designed to restore sensitive, irritated, red or itchy skin with a blend of marjoram, Italian lemon zest, laurel, and Centella Asiatica to soothe the skin. The trace minerals combine a mix of chromium, cobalt, and iodine to balance blood circulation and protect capillary walls.

We like to use it after toning( as the serum step), before moisturizing (we like to use it before the Sisley Ecological Compound). Mix four drops of trace minerals and four drops of the soothing essential oils complex into the palm of your hands and gently pat with fingertips into the skin. By morning, your skin will look brighter, more even-toned, and redness and inflammation will be dramatically reduced – it’s VERY impressive, plus it smells amazing.

The Glow-Giver: Kora Organics Turmeric Brightening & Exfoliating Mask, $60

Kora Organics Turmeric Brightening & Exfoliating MaskSource: Sephora

First of all, we have to say, we love everything from Miranda Kerr’s all-natural, mostly organic range of Kora Organics beauty products – the packaging, ingredients, and results are always spot on! This 2-in-1 mask combines some of nature’s most powerful healing ingredients: Turmeric brightens pigmentation and balances skin tone, aspen bark smooths and renews skin, rosehip seeds, peppermint, and papaya enzymes help to detox pores and refine the skin for a healthy complexion.

The formula has both gentle, physical exfoliators and natural enzymes that dissolve dead skin cells and stimulate cell renewal. Gently apply to damp skin in circular motions, then sit back for 10 minutes and let the enzymes and ingredients work their magic. Use two to three time a week, and you’ll notice an improvement right away.

The At-Home Facial: Ziip Beauty Device, $495

ZIIP Golden Gel

This genius tool uses nano currents to sculpt your face for a more chiseled appearance. It not only carves out cheekbones (not literally, but it looks that way), but it has seven different programs, so it can also help to treat blemish-prone skin, soften  dark circles and fine lines, and improve pigmentation.

Small electronic vibrations stimulate cells and increase cell energy, which boosts levels of ATP (the energy currency of cells), effectively stimulating the creation of elastin, collagen, and other really sciency stuff! All you have to do is choose your program on the Ziip app, apply the conductive gel to your face, and then move the device across your skin, according to your chosen treatment. We love the Instant Gratification programme, which takes 4-minutes, and chisels your face for more defined cheekbones and a snatched jawline. Check out our full review here.

The Ultimate Body Hydrator: Caudalie Divine Oil, $49

Caudalie Divine OilSource: Caudalie

Without a doubt, our fave body oil ever! We love to smother this onto our skin straight out of the shower or bath – it’s the best way to lock in moisture! The blend of grapeseed, hibiscus, sesame, and argan oils combined with their patented blends gives the softest most hydrated skin! The dry oil formula means it doesn’t feel greasy and it absorbs almost immediately, so all you’re left with is super soft skin and a subtle glow.

The Ultimate Detoxer: Shu Uemura Anti/Oxi+ Pollutant & Dullness Clarifying Cleansing Oil, $40.

Shu Uemura Anti/Oxi+ Pollutant & Dullness Clarifying Cleansing OilSource: Sephora

A cleansing oil is an essential daily product for us – all that makeup means double cleansing is essential, and every good double cleansing routine starts with a cleansing oil. Iconic Japanese Beauty brand Shu Uemura is one of the best, and we’re obsessed with this powerful cleansing oil that rids the skin of oxidative stress, micro impurities, and stubborn makeup. Combining antioxidant-rich green tea extract, moringa extract to remove pollutants, and papaya extract to polish skin, this smells incredible and leaves skin feeling clean, hydrated, and nourished. We use ours every evening and finish with a gel cleanser.

The Ultimate Skin Nourisher: Sisley Ecological Compound, $250

Sisley Ecological CompoundSource: Sisley

Not only does this smell divine, but the formula is so incredible it has remained untouched since its creation in 1980. Formulated with a synergistic compound of plants, including one of our fave ingredients, the ultra-healing Centella Asiatica, as well as ginseng, rosemary, hops, and horsetail, which stimulates, tones and revitalizes the skin. The fluid, lightweight texture feels nourishing and hydrating, yet it leaves a beautiful matte texture. At nighttime (or if you have dry skin), use this emulsion as an extra hydrating step before moisturizer, while oily skin types can use this during the day to hydrate the skin instead of a heavy moisturizer.

If you’re looking for something new, you will fall in love with this – especially as they’ve just released a limited-edition bottle in collaboration with artist Elzbieta Radziwill, which is now the prettiest thing on our beauty shelf.

The Face Contouring Roller: MDNA SKIN Beauty Roller, $200

Madonna MDNA Beauty Roller

This beauty roller literally lifts and contours the face by grabbing the muscles under your skin and improving circulation and firmness – and wow, does it work like magic. Each ergonomically designed, high-density carbon ball harnesses Ultra-Infrared Energy that creates heat within your muscles to visibly energize, lift, firm, boost hydration, and retexturize fine lines and wrinkles.

It also boosts lymphatic drainage (depuffing the face and speeding up the removal of toxins from underneath the skin), while the grooves in each carbon ball help to grip the muscle to offer intense contouring. You’ll see an immediate difference, but in just a week, it visibly helps to tighten and contour the face, plus you can use it on your body too, so it’s an all-around beauty essential. The Skin Healer: The Baby Quasar Plus, $400

The Baby Quasar PlusSource: Baby Quasar

This red-light therapy tool really is unparalleled as far as the results it gives your skin – the technology was developed by NASA to heal wounds! It makes your skin glow, it boosts collagen like crazy and helps with everything from wrinkles to pigmentation and scarring. You can even use it to treat rosacea and psoriasis – it’s just the ultimate thing for skin!

It works by increasing energy in your skin, which triggers a series of reactions that result in new collagen forming. This boosts collagen unlike anything else we’ve tried, and it really does work wonders for scars, and wrinkles too. Your skin will glow instantly! It’s expensive, but an investment worth making if you’re serious about skincare. We like to use it three or four times a week, especially after dermarolling, or if we have any new pigmentation from a pimple.
