PRODUCT REVIEW | HAIR

By Huda Heidi Kattan

I get sooo excited about kick ass drugstore products, maybe more excited than I do about anything else in beauty! I recently starting using Dove Hair Care–my first experience was with the Deep Moisture Hair Mask, which is so amazing that I actually get psyched to use it (Read the full review here)! So I tried the Oil Replacement, not knowing what to expect, and I really love it! It’s definitely a lighter oil replacement than what I’ve used in the past and I personally LOVE it for when I straighten my hair! It kind of just soaks right into your hair, leaving super hydrated! No matter where you are with winter or summer, it’s sooooo important to make sure your hair is moisture-full, otherwise it is much more prone to damage–boooo! We might not realize it, but our hair will break more easily, the color will fade, and split ends will grow, so make sure to keep your hair hydrated!

The best thing about this Oil Replacement is that it literally just absorbs into your hair, without any greasiness! The only thing, it does leave a slight residue if you apply too much, so apply less and work your way up as needed! I recommend applying to your ends only, to keep your hair full! You can even use this before blow-drying and flat ironing and it will work beautifully!

    Hey huda!

    I LOVE your blog.

Does applying oil to your colored hair helps the color to fade away?
I’ve heard applying coconut oil can actually make your hair darker. is that even true?

Hi darling, honestly I’ll be honest. I don’t know about that, but some products definitely affect the color of your hair, but at the same time, everyone’s hair is different. We use different products for color, different heating tools, so everyone’s hair is soooo different. I actually wanted to do hair before, but hair is soooo hard since everyone’s hair is unpredictable based on what they’ve been through, their hormones, and eating habits. It’s best to get to know your own hair first and see what happens!

I am just very confused now, as i saw one of ur reviews about pantene… in which uve said that it is the best… I’ve used pantene long back and since i was not happy with the smell, i changed to sunsilk. i have tried dove years back and stopped due to drastic hairfall… Dove definitely wasn’t good years back. i don’t know if they have improved the quality. But now, am confused whether to use pantene or dove! Please tell me which one of the two is best :) As of now, i am using sunsilk hairfall control.

THIS IS SUCH A GREAT QUESTION!! :) I’m actually so glad you asked this! Now, the Dove Oil Replacements are completely different from the Pantene Oil Replacements! The one from Dove is really very light and absorbs into your hair very fast! Believe me when I tell you can flat iron over it and it would be fine cause it almost disappears into your hair! Now the Pantene is definitely heavier. The Pantene is best used as a treatment before you wash or if you are not going to use a heat tool afterwards, for instance just let your hair air dry when it’s curly or wavy! Since the Dove absorbs into your hair, you can use it when your hair is straight without worrying about it looking greasy at all! So it really depends on you and how you want to use it! I personally haven’t tried too much Sunsilk.

In my opinion, no matter how great a hair brand is, it always reacts different to your hair! I would give them a try, but I would just watch how your hair reacts, because everyone’s hair reacts differently to different products!

Won’t it fry my hair if I apply it before straightening?

  6. I really need a shamp/condit that doesn’t leave extra greasiness!

Is it a conditioner? I just bought the conditioner “nourishing oil care”. Could it be the same??? The cream has 2 colors!Hope it´s good!

No darling, it’s what you use after you’re done! I know it’s so confusing since the names are similar, but this is new and different from the conditioner. It’s kind of a leave In Conditioner!

Has anyone tried no shampoo method ? How long do you go before washing with baking soda ? I’m in week 2 and so far looks great

Hi darling! Everyone’s hair and scalp is different! Some people can’t go 2 days without washing, others look best after 3 days of no wash! I think it’s important to feel your hair out! But remember, going too long without a wash can cause hair fall if your scalp starts to produce too much oil, with the mixture of dirt in the air it’s not a healthy environment for your hair follicles! Feel your hair out, but it may be best to add more serums or oil replacements to your hair to give you the full benefit without waiting so long for a wash!

I do know some girls who go a month without washing their hair and it looks great without any hair fall, but everyone is different!
