Product Review: Hair Rehab with Ouai Hair Masques

Real talk, who wouldn’t trust celeb stylist Jen Atkin with their hair? Exactly. So when our hair needs serious TLC post-color, we turned to her Ouai Hair Treatment Masques for some damage control. Here’s what we thought:
Ouai Mask
What it is: This pack comes with eight treatment doses (meant to be used twice a week), to restore and heal hair in a matter of minutes:

What it does: Uses ingredients like artichoke leaf extract and jojoba to nourish and repair strands. Just apply to hair, comb through with your fingers, wait 5 to 10 minutes, and then rinse out.

What we liked: Our ends were seriously parched from over-styling and color. This mask is bringing it back to life. After one use, we noticed much softer, bouncier ends without feeling the least bit weighed down. We also like to apply to our ends before a long gym session so we’re ready to go once we hit the shower. The light floral scent that makes the treatment feel extra luxurious.

What we didn’t like: The amount felt right for shorter hair, but we can imagine it takes more than one if you have super long and thick hair. Let us know if you tried it in the comments and what you thought too!

Price: $32 for 8 packets

This Chrome Mask Says it Can Give You Sexy Contours – But Does It Work?

We’ve tried peel-off masks before, but what we were most interested in this one was testing its claims to give you “more toned, sexy contours” (their words, not ours).
glamglow gravitymud
What it is: A brush-on, peel-off treatment mask to firm and tone skin.

What it does: Helps to lift, tone, and tighten skin.

What we liked: We loved that this comes with a mini brush that easily spreads this gooey, marshmallow-like mask over our skin. Just make sure you avoid the eye area, brows, and hair line since it might be tricky to peel off from those areas. This mask felt otherworldy – it could have been that it sets to a brilliant, Tin Man-chrome, or maybe the light coconut-ey scent got to us. Whatever the case, after 30 minutes, the mask easily (and not painfully!) peels off to what we felt after a few uses was a brighter, tighter result.

What we didn’t like: Admittedly, it took a few go’s for us to really appreciate it (and because we might have mistakenly tried to wash it off the first time instead of peeling it off – it is water-soluble so it did dissolve but after a few minutes of scrubbing over the sink). Our skin did feel more behaved and glowing after peeling off – we’re not entirely sure if it was the silver residue from the chrome. That said, “sexy contours” might be overstating it. Basically, don’t expect miracles but it is a good mask for a weekly reset…and your next Instagram pic.

On the Go: Tarte x Styled by Hrush Palette

We haven’t made our affections for makeup artist Hrush a secret. But there’s good reason for it – girl knows beauty. Understandably, when she partnered up with Tarte to come out with her own mini-palette, it sold out quicker than you can say Styled by Hrush. Good news is, you can still purchase it at Ulta.com. Here’s what we thought about her limited-edition palette:
tarte hrush 1
tarte hrush 2
What it is: A palette co-created with celebrity makeup artist Hrush Achemyan containing three shimmery shades (including a limited-edition white gold one), three matte shadows, and one peachy-pink blush.

What we liked: We loved the pigmented colors that you can use matte for a sophisticated day time look, or blend with the lusters to amp it up as a liner or shadows for an evening look. The colors are a universally-flattering combo for all-over, crease, and highlight shades. We love to use the peachy “Pinch” for everyday, the brown “Kitty” for our crease, and the decadent “Royal” purple as a hint of liner. The shimmery “Bliss” and “Smitten” add a nice pop of bling that’s so very Hrush. Not to mention, a peachy-pink blusher that gives us the prettiest flush to our cheeks. It has personality, with still very wearable colors. The size is perfect to throw in your purse — the sleek faux-crocodile leather embossed cover even makes it look like a mini-wallet.

What we didn’t like: What’s not to like?

My First Impressions on the Flirt Lash Applicator!

flirt flashes lash applicator 2

Hey guys! So my team came across this new Flashes Lash Applicator by Flirt everyone’s been buzzing about that kind of looks like a White-Out pen…but it dispenses lashes!

It’s supposed to make lash application easier, so I thought I’d give it a try and share what I thought of it. I dove right in (without reading any instructions at first!) to see if it was easier to use than strip lashes — did it pass the test? Watch the video to see my full first impression on it!

Have any of you tried it? What did you think? The Flash Lash Applicator is available for $28 on flirtcosmetics.com.

Add a Pop of Color With These Black Up Liquid Liners

blackup eyeliners 1

What it is: An inky, waterproof liquid liner that you apply with its pointy sponge tip, and dries matte.

What it does: Line your lids to emphasize eyes with the black, or add some drama with the new colorful options that are also long-wearing.

What we liked: Normally when we hear colorful liquid liners, we’ve seen the muted plums, hunter greens, and maroons. This is not that. The black is a sophisticated matte, while the colored liners are vibrant and elegant. The blue is the most royal of blues (perfect to bring out darker eyes), and the purple, teal, and yellow adds brightness and fun to any skin tone. We love the pigmented colors and beautifully curated hues.

What we didn’t like: It does take a couple go’s to get a perfectly opaque line, but when you do, it’s worth it. And although it’s waterproof enough for everyday wear, some did wipe off after a particularly sweaty session at the gym.
