Drugstore Of The Week: This Drugstore Foundation Is Like Glass Skin In A Bottle
After the bold red lips, glitter looks, and sexy smokey eyes of the holidays, we’re down for a slightly more natural, laid-back look to see us through January. As well as detoxing and trying as best we can to cleanse after a lot of indulgences in December (no regrets), we also want our skin to look as radiant as we’re trying to feel!
Glass skin has to be the ultimate natural look – and one of our fave K-beauty trends that we won’t let go of – but it’s not always the easiest thing to perfect. Especially if you don’t have time to layer toner after toner, serum after serum… you get the point. Fortunately, we’ve found the secret to cheating the natural glowing look, and it doesn’t take any time or a boujee bank account.
If no makeup-makeup and a healthy complexion is what you’re lusting after, then say hey to the Neutrogena Healthy Skin Liquid Makeup Foundation, $15.
Here’s everything you need to know:
The finish: This liquid foundation offers the ultimate dewy, healthy skin look. It blends like a dream and offers light to medium coverage, but it can also be built up easily for more coverage.
The wear: This feels so lightweight on the skin, it’s almost like you’re not wearing makeup. It doesn’t sink into pores or emphasize them, and it wears really well throughout the day. We do recommend setting this foundation with loose powder, especially if you have oily skin.
Posts You'll Love:
The shade range: The collection has only 14 shades, but as it’s not super full coverage, each shade can work for more one than one skin tone. The spectrum of shades for very fair and darker skin tones is disappointing, so if you like the formula, you may need to mix two shades to get the best match.
Need-to-know: We love that this is packed with skin-enhancing antioxidants and has SPF 20, although we still recommend wearing a sunscreen with SPF 30. We love pairing the foundation with the Maybelline Facestudio Master Prime Blur + Defend, $10, which not only primes and blurs the pores but also contains SPF 30 to fully protect your skin.
How to wear: For full coverage, use a stippling brush (like this drugstore fave) to stipple the foundation on, then use a damp makeup sponge for an airbrushed finish. For a lightweight or medium finish, use a foundation brush or damp sponge.
How to wear for your skin type:
For oily skin: Start with a mattifying primer, apply according to your coverage preference and set all over with powder. We love to mix a little of the Mario Badescu Special Healing Powder, $12, with our usual loose powder, as it helps absorb oil and fight shine. If you prefer full coverage, instead of layers of foundation, we recommend using a concealer to target any areas you wish to conceal.
For normal-combo skin: Apply a lightweight primer then apply foundation and lightly set with a loose powder.
For dry skin: Apply a hydrating primer before the foundation, then lightly dust your T-zone with a loose setting powder.
What we wish Neutrogena did: Other than expanding and diversifying their shade range, we wish that this had a pump or some type of applicator, as the liquid formula is runny and it’s easy to pour a little too much out – so be careful!
Tip: To up your glass skin glow-game, add a little liquid highlighter into the formula before applying and blend with a damp makeup sponge.
