Derms Spill Their Fave Drugstore Products & Skincare Tips
When it comes to skincare, no one knows better than dermatologists – they’ve literally dedicated their lives to the glow up. And since we’re always on the quest for healthy, glowing skin, we asked three of the world’s leading dermatologists for their ride-or-die products and their top three skincare tips. Here’s what they had to say…
Dr. Lancer’s Essential Skincare Tips

Chances are you’ve heard of Dr. Lancer and his skincare line Lancer Skincare – it’s a beauty editor fave. If you haven’t heard of him directly, you’ll definitely know his A-list clientele – Kim K, Victoria Beckham, and Ellen. Now we have your attention, here are his top skincare tips…
Skincare Tip #1: Partner With A Dermatologist FOR LIFE
“Have a board-certified dermatologist guide you through skin, hair, and nail care for your entire life. They should be a medical, residency, fellowship-trained dermatologist. No matter who gives you advice on your skincare, medical, surgical or cosmetic concerns, always run it by that same board-certified dermatologist before making a decision. Most people don’t have treatments done by derms because they’re looking for bargains, so even if that physician isn’t doing the treatment, run it by them before you have it done.”
Skincare Tip #2: Follow a Program
“Follow a program (aka a skincare regime). Once you have a skin, hair, and nail routine locked down, make sure you stick to it. Make it a habit just like breathing. Skincare loyalty makes a huge difference and will help you achieve real results.” Check out our derm-approved skincare regimes for oily, dry, and acne-prone skin. And don’t forget, as you get older it’s worth switching up your skincare regime according to your age to tackle different skin concerns.
Skincare Tip #3: Diet and Exercise are Key
There’s no point in having an amazing skincare regimen but then neglecting your body, as Dr. Lancer reminds us “What you eat and drink will definitely influence your skin, hair, and nails in terms of aging and treatment-based success. Daily exercise is also critically important in terms of general metabolic rate and oxygen flow of the skin, hair, and nails.”
Dr. Lancer’s Fave Skincare Products
The Lancer The Method Polish, $75: We’re obsessed with The Lancer Polish and we’re not alone – celebs like Rosie Huntington Whitely and Ariana Grande swear by it. The scrub will gently buff away dead skin, helping you maintain a more radiant complexion. Although it says it’s suitable for daily use, we only feel we need to use it 3-4 times a week.
Lancer Omega Hydrating Oil, $80: Dr. Lancer explains “A lot of people have inflammation and this oil is a very high quality fermented anti-inflammatory topical.” We’ve been using it as part of our nighttime routine for months and it leaves our skin feeling super soft while it doesn’t feel heavy on your skin.
Dr. Lancer’s drugstore faves: “Eucerin and CeraVe products are good for everyday use. They’re simple, not targeted therapy, reliable, and inexpensive,” says Dr. Lancer. We love the CeraVe Skin Renewing Night Cream With Hyaluronic Acid & Niacinamide, $18.50; it’s packed with hydrating, reparative ingredients to restore your skin while you sleep.

Specializing in laser and cosmetic dermatology, there’s nothing Dr. Doris Day doesn’t know about the latest treatments or skincare rules. Her book Beyond Beautiful is basically our skincare bible, and she also has her own Medical Skin Care beauty brand that we swear by.
Skincare Tip #1: Apply Your Products with Care
“You tend to apply more product to the right side of the face if you are right-handed and to the left side if you are left-handed. This means you will age faster on the left side if you are right-handed and on the right side if you are left-handed! Be sure to pay attention and make the extra effort to take care of both sides of your face, especially when using sunscreen. Test yourself and you’ll see it’s true!”

Skincare Tip #2: Fill Your Regime with Antioxidants
“Use antioxidants under sunscreen to get an extra boost of repair from UV rays during the day. Use retinol along with growth factors at night to help your skin help itself repair damage done from stress, pollution, and other lifestyle factors that may be prematurely aging your skin.” If the prospect of using retinol is a little scary, read our retinol guide here.
Skincare Tip #3: Drink Water
“During hot summer months, be sure to stay well hydrated. Your skin naturally contains hyaluronic acid [the skincare mega hydrator], which keeps it firm and resilient. The better hydrated you are from the inside, the firmer your skin will look and feel.”

Olay Glow Boost White Charcoal Clay Mask Stick, $13.50: “It uses white charcoal and kaolin clay to gently exfoliate and remove the buildup of dead skin cells. The stick formula makes it easy to apply so you can use more where you need it and avoid areas that don’t. Also great for multi masking!” Before you do a face mask, read our masking guide.
L’Oreal Paris Revitalift Derm Intensives 10% Pure Vitamin C Serum, $30: “This serum contains 10% pure vitamin C to help restore radiance, improve skin tone, and reduce the appearance of wrinkles in the skin. I layer this with hyaluronic acid and always use it under my sunscreen in the morning to get more sun protection than just from sunscreen alone.”
ISDINCEUTICS Melatonik 3-1 Serum, $160: Dr. Day says that she loves this serum as it “Contains melatonin, which stimulates your skin’s natural defenses while you sleep, as well as bakuchiol, which has retinol-like properties and vitamin C. It will help your skin rejuvenate while you sleep, reduces lines and wrinkles. It will also work to even out skin tone while hydrating the skin.”
Dr. Shereene Idriss’ Essential Skincare Tips

NYC Board Certified Derm and expert in fillers and lasers, Dr. Shereene Idriss seriously knows her stuff. We follow her advice religiously – we love her Pillow Talk chats on her Instagram stories – and our skin majorly thanks us for it. Here are her top skincare tips:
Skincare Tip #1: Stay Out of the Sun
“The sun is NOT your friend! If I could go back in time it would be to tell my younger self to embrace the ghost-like qualities of my skin to skip trying to tan.” This definitely isn’t the first time a derm has told us this, and it won’t be the last.
Skincare Tip #2: Always Cleanse at Night
“Never go to bed without washing your face and removing your makeup.” As much as we hate to admit it, we’re all guilty of this. But cleansing every night is a must – we double cleanse (when you cleanse two times consecutively) to ensure every trace of makeup, dirt, and pollution that touched our skin throughout the day is removed.
Skincare Tip #3: Sunscreen Sunscreen Sunscreen
“If you’re going to do anything for your skin, wear sunscreen daily! See #1” insists Dr. Idriss. In the winter, a product containing SPF will provide adequate protection but in the winter, make sure you wear SPF 30 with 5-star UVA rating. We’re currently wearing the Thank You Farmer Sun Project Water Sun Cream SPF 50, $23, it’s super lightweight so it doesn’t leave your skin feeling greasy. Find more of our fave sunscreens here. Oh, and if you’ve ever wondered how TF you apply sunscreen over makeup, check out this post.
