At-home skincare isn’t going anywhere, but sometimes in-office treatments can reap greater rewards and are a nice ‘treat yourself’ moment to indulge in. Since they’re more intensive in nature, these treatments can almost always get you to your skin goals faster than any cream, targeting issues such as hyperpigmentation, firmness, clarity, pores, and more.

To maximize your dollar, it’s important to opt into treatments that target your specific needs and that have a solid reputation for delivering amazing results. To help you navigate the murky waters of in-office procedures, we asked a few pros to share their top treatments.

Vivace RF Microneedling

Cost: $400 to $800; 3 to 4 treatments recommended spaced one month apart.

Best for: Fine lines and wrinkles, skin tightening, pore minimization, tone and texture

Microneedling creates tiny puncture wounds in your skin, which in turn triggers a healing process that stimulates collagen production. At-home microneedling uses extremely small needles, while in-office microneedling treatments utilize larger needles that produce better results. Vivace RF Microneedling goes one step further by incorporating radiofrequency (RF) into the mix, which further stimulates collagen production. In that sense, it’s a real double whammy.

“Vivace RF Microneedling is definitely an impactful investment in your skin. While the cost is higher than regular microneedling, you get what you pay for in terms of results,” explains Katie Mann, certified nurse practitioner and founder of Curated Medical. “Aside from reduced downtime, with Vivace, you’re able to have personalized treatment settings depending on your individual skin type and concerns, and you can rest assured that the treatment is being delivered safely and consistently.”

It’s a much savvier tool compared to at-home dermarollers, which can create undesirable tears in your skin and are hard to keep clean. Also, it utilizes a stamping motion versus rolling, which allows for more uniform punctures and improved results. If you want a triple whammy, you can also add platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to your treatment for about $300.

Cost: $150 to $300 per treatment

Best for: acne, fine lines, hyperpigmentation, tone, and texture

If you’re not keen on any sort of pain or discomfort, the HydraFacial is the way to go. It’s essentially a hyper-tailored, ultra-effective soothing facial that helps boost overall glow, tone, and texture. Also, if you suffer from acne, the HydraFacial can help keep your skin balanced, kill acne-causing bacteria, and infuse serums that will build your skin barrier, preventing dirt and pollution from contributing to your breakouts.

“This treatment uses patented Vortex technology to gently vacuum impurities out of your skin while infusing hydrating and skin-building serums. It’ll make your skin glow – you’ll notice smaller pores, more smooth texture, and a vibrant appearance,” says Felicia Munion, co-founder of Arizona Facial Plastics. She adds, “When compared to a regular facial, the HydraFacial delivers better results and is hyper-targeted on your skin’s specific needs.” The frequency is up to you, but many opt for once a month like they would a regular facial.

Ultherapy

Cost: $2500 to $5000 depending on the size of area treated

Best for: skin firming

Ultherapy is one of the best treatments you can find if you’re looking to target skin firmness. It’s a non-invasive, micro-focused ultrasound treatment that triggers a thermal effect under the skin. This has a tightening effect way down into the fascia, and it also helps your body produce new collagen.

“People like Ultherapy rather than other treatments, such as lasers and surgery, as it has very minimal downtime and is non-invasive,” explains Dr. Jeannette Graf, a board-certified dermatologist and assistant clinical professor of Dermatology at Mt Sinai School of Medicine. “Results from Ultherapy usually appear over two to three months and can last months after the treatment, as it takes time for the body to produce the new collagen to lift the skin on the treated area. Most patients only need one treatment depending on skin elasticity, which diminishes with age, but follow-up treatments each year can help maintain results.”

Cost: $100 to $200 per treatment

Best for: treating hyperpigmentation and uneven texture

The Melanage Micropeel treats the top layers of skin to improve your overall tone. It specifically targets hyperpigmentation caused by sun damage, melasma, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) from acne scars. Also, it was specifically developed to be safe for use on people with deep skin tones, who often have a hard time finding approved hyperpigmentation treatments.

“This peel is a gentle treatment that delivers exceptional results. The solution is applied in the office, and then you remove it a few hours later at home. It helps to shrink pores, reduce redness, and give you glowy, healthy skin,” explains Munion. “Compared to regular peels, the Melanage is a great investment because it has little to no downtime. Your face might be red for a day or two, but you won’t have huge flakes of skin sloughing off, making it easy to incorporate this highly effective peel into your routine.”

Results are usually apparent within three to five days, and Munion recommends scheduling once every two to three months for maintenance.

Cost: $1000 to $2000 for full face

Best for: fine lines and wrinkles, loose skin, hyperpigmentation, tone, and texture

Fraxel is considered a non-invasive alternative to a surgical facelift. It utilizes the power of fractionated lasers (hence the name Fraxel) to treat skin deep below the surface and repair damage. “Fraxel penetrates the skin more deeply [when compared to other less aggressive laser treatments], and results can help correct the skin on a deeper level,” says Dr. Graf. “These results are immediate and progress over the months following the treatment. On average, results can last at least a year, but it varies from patient to patient based on their complexion.” Just check out some of the impressive before and afters on the #Fraxel tag on Instagram.
