Derms Reveal The Scary Truth About Your Washcloth Habits!
Splash, rinse, cleanse, and pat dry with your trusty face towel – if that sounds like your daily face wash routine, put your hand up. But hold up, where’d you toss your face towel? Did you plop it right over a towel rack or fling it across your sink to dry?
We hate to tell you this, but according to derms, you should be tossing them into the laundry basket! As high maintenance as it sounds, using a new face towel daily keeps your skin free from bacteria, dirt, or any of the previous day’s yuckies! It’s an overlooked step, but we’re finally seeing board-certified derms like Dr. Shereene Idriss speak up about it. Here’s what she had to say:

She’s spitting facts, besties. Your cleanser (as amazing as she may be) won’t always catch every last speck of dirt sitting on your face, which inevitably can end up on your towel. To make matters worse, bacteria multiply in damp environments (like your washroom), so as it hangs there damp, it becomes the perfect breeding ground for mold and bacteria. Dry them in the sun instead or better yet, toss them straight into your laundry hamper and take a fresh cloth before your next cleanse. We know it sounds dramatic, but we’re not taking ANY chances here.

To make your life easier, invest in a towel set like the SINLAND Microfiber Facial Cloths, $14 – you get six microfiber washcloths to last you a week, so there’s zero pressure to wash and dry them immediately. You can choose from different colors (to match them to your PJs, duh) and rest easy thinking about allllll the yuckies you’re not exposing your face to.
Speaking about skincare routines, are you double-cleansing? We hope you are because, like taking a fresh new towel, it’s a step that should never, we repeat never, be skipped.
